As Bernout mentioned, I coined it as a hypothetical in the post quoted here:

Seems we might need a NoscoreGB if we want to fuse the game balancing features of SUC319b with Noscore.

Before I knew that an even larger tech catch up feature than in SUC319b was built into NoScoreV2.

I think we are looking for tech catch-up, demographics masking, and tech masking all in one mod. Adding tech masking to V2 seems to be the shortest route.

I've confirmed that setting the bTechTrading flag to 0 for Alphabet works as expected in single player at least. I doubt it will be different for multiplayer, so for a no-TT game it's really simple to turn off tech info.

could you check to make sure espionage (tech stealing) still works with trading disabled in alpha?

I'm not sure what was done for NoScoreV2, but in case I didn't post it before here's jdog's reply to my "tech catch up" request at CFC:

"Sorry for the slow reply ... in case you're still wondering, there are two ways to go:

XML only: Increase TECH_COST_TOTAL_KNOWN_TEAM_MODIFIER to 50 or so. This will have the side effect of making the tech rate a little bit faster for the top teams as well, but not too much. Also, the effect scales oddly for large versus small maps ...

SDK: The relevant code is in CvPlayer::calculateResearchModifier. You could check out the BBAI code sections marked with "Tech Diffusion" and decide whether you want to use those or create your own solution."

Tech stealing works as normal. You get a list of possible techs to steal, which means a spy will always (while uncaught) let you keep track of your opponent's techs (the ones you're eligible to steal to be precise). Is this considered a problem? I think it's a nice effect personally.

EDIT: Of course you must have enough EP invested to get the option to steal in the first place, so I think it's a definite win.

If you have the EP then you've earned the right to see tech imo.
