I understand ya, but in this case the stats aren't even different, it's just a different color. In the case of the other new units in the expansion, I think Relic did a fairly decent job of balancing them. You do have to pay for the new units, but it mostly boils down to personal preference on whether to use them in game.

For example, the M8 replacement is great vs infantry, but has paper-thin armor and can't be upgraded or place mines. The Hellcat is a slower version of the M10, but it can camouflage.

I think as long as the dev isn't forcing people to pay for better units, everybody wins. If you want to try something new you can, but you're not at a disadvantage if you don't get the expansion. It's a thin line though, because I'm sure it would seem very lucrative for them to charge microtransations for uber-units. Is that the case w/ DoWII? I'm not familiar.

No, DoW II hasn't done it. I was talking about if this worked with Company of Heroes, I don't think Relic would hesitate to add some sort of fancy looking Assault Terminators for 5 bucks, or something. That's already how the award system is. The higher rank you are, the cooler your units look.
