Well, I did not like WiC. I like CoH, but NorCal's review will make me think twice about OF.

It's a different style of play for the new factions compared to the old ones, but different doesn't necessarily equal bad. The PE really fits my playstyle of aggression so that's probably why I like it.

anybody download the game and have trouble installing it? You need to d/l 4 parts right? then all you need to do is click on part one which is the executable?

edit - nevermind....i figured it out

edit - man, im loving these two armies! A lot of new stuff to learn. I like the "lock down" of the PE. Knowning when to bunker down and when to keep on the move is vital. Im not gonna be goin online anytime soon but i love beatin the AI up.

I'm starting to get the hang of it and it's turning out to be pretty cool. I was too used to using the prior armies and I tried to play with the old strategies in mind. That's were I went wrong. New armies = new strategies. Don't decide not to get it on my account, I had a bad first impression. It's definitely growing on me. Give it a chance if you're curious.

If I may guess, your main stumbling block was no "weapons teams" as you are used to from vanilla? It's strange how the 2 new factions play out. Every infantry unit the Brits can make other then their officers can build defensive structures, while for the PE, they can only build their unit producing structures and nothing else. The PE has to play aggressive as their tech definitely peak's at about the 10 minute mark while the Brit's have to play an aggressive defense until their tech starts paying dividends. (which happens to be about the 10 minute mark.) The dynamic for 2v2's seems to be about the new factions buying time for the old factions to hard-tech. The PE vs. USA is out of balance at the moment at similar skill levels. The US has all the tools to maul the PE, but they can't get them fast enough to have them be of value and you are forced to go inf for rangers or Airborne for para's/AT drops. Strafing run isn't very effective vs. the PE and artillery is a waste of precious munitions you need to upgrade rangers with thompsons (the thompsons are huge for Rangers fighting PE infantry.) so you are stuck with doctrines you only get use out of 4 cp's worth of command xp. Your manpower is spent just surviving and not teching so until you get 3-5 ranger squads and 2-4 para squads with supporting riflemen you can't hold your ground.

Um...remind me the next time we have scheduled matches to add you to my team lol. I totally agree, the game at this point gives an edge towards the new factions. But, the new units are fun to deploy and sweet to take advantage of.

I think Wehr vs. Brit's is balanced almost perfectly at the moment, it's just USA vs. PE that's screwed up. It's almost the exact reverse of Wehr vs. USA where the US has all the advantages in the early game due to the flexibility.

When I go into the coh multiplayer now, it asks me to download a patch of 1.7 gig?
Can anyone tell me what this is/does (obviously linked to OF). I only play over lan via hamachi, so I don't really need the patch. I'd rather not downoad it unless it brings me any new content or other benefits.

Al!!! You've had CoH this whole time! Jump on board and join us sometime. We could you use another tactical gamer. You're question is a good one. I know they changed the original maps slightly with the resource amounts. If you don't play online matches you may not need it. If you're matching up via Himachi w/ others that don't have the download you might be fine as well. Just a guess.

The patch gives you a few new maps and puts all the new OF content on your system so you can play against people who own the expansion. But if you play on hamachi with a bunch of 1.71 people, it doesn't matter, unless everyone else is patched up to the current version.

Re: CoH: OF in stores and download...

BTW, I picked up OF tonight. Amazingly, my fiancee suggested it while we were at the mall. I love this woman!

I activated it in-game by doing the Activate Product option on the front login menu and entering the CD key, and didn't have to install from the DVD. Pretty slick. Edit - Er, that didn't work. I activated the product, but couldn't play the campaign or use the new factions, so I had to uninstall CoH and put the OF disc in and reinstall, then everything was there. Played the first mission as Brits, and was a little disappointed by how much hand-holding the CPU does for you. I guess it is the first mission though. The artillery is fun!

yea the first mission is always easy....it gets quite hard in the later missions though especially if you try to get the medals.
