As we prepare to enter the new year, we are making some changes here at Tactical Gamer. As we have grown our community has changed in a lot of different ways. Tactical Gamer has become a gaming resource not just for our own community members but gamers outside out community as well. In an effort to foster this growth and to expand Tactical Gamer, we are bringing on some new staff members.

Oniell121 is coming on board as a Community/Site Administrator. Oniell will be taking Asch’s old position now that Asch’s real-world responsibilities (which I can certainly understand, having gone through the wonders of having children myself) overtake the work he has been doing for Tactical Gamer. Oniell and I are working on some exciting new plans for Tactical Gamer that will be announced soon.

Warlab is stepping up to the newly created position of Content Development Manager (CDM). This new position acts as the head of our existing and new Content Development teams that we will be putting together. Warlab will have positions under him to manage the development of new content, relationships with publishers, developers, and hardware manufacturers. We are aiming to re-kindle the development of our own original content in the gaming, hardware and technology spaces.

Please join me in welcoming both Oniell121 and Warlab to their new positions!

Operating directly under the National Command Authority, a relatively unknown entity of handpicked warriors are called on when the mission must not fail. They are the Tier 1 Operators.

Over 2 million Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines wear the uniform. Of those, approximately 50 thousand fall under the direct control of the Special Operations Command. The Tier 1 Operator functions on a plane of existence above and beyond even the most highly trained Special Operations Forces. Their exact numbers, while classified, hover in the low hundreds. They are living, breathing, precision instruments of war. They are experts in the application of violence.

The new Medal of Honor is inspired by and has been developed with Tier 1 Operators from this elite community. Players will step into the boots of these warriors and apply their unique skill sets to a new enemy in the most unforgiving and hostile battlefield conditions of present day Afghanistan.

There is a new enemy. There is a new war. There is a new warrior. He is Tier 1.

Marshall McLuhan, a Canadian media scholar, put media studies in the daily news and at the forefront of the social sciences in the last century when he drew a convincing connection between content, medium, brain, and society. McLuhan's insights were correct, although his theories about the nature of the connection were often fanciful and quickly disproven.

Over sixty years after McLuhan's initial connection between mind and medium we are still trying to assess the nature of media's effects upon us. A team of researchers at the University of Rochester just published a study about the impact of gaming upon an aspect of decision making known as "probabilistic inference", and for the Tactical Gaming community, the news appears to be all good. ...

The following is from PC Magazine. If you were a die hard Duke Nukem fan, this should get your heart beating!
PC Magazine Sept. 4 2010 - The long-troubled -- and previously aborted -- development of Duke Nukem Forever is getting a new life, as 2K Games revealed Friday morning at PAX that the game is not only in development but is playable on the show floor.
The game's coming to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC for 2011. Gearbox Software is finishing development, after the demise of originator 3D Realms about a year ago, despite repeated commitments to revive the game. A version for the iPhone shipped last summer.

"I can't believe it, either," said Gearbox Software CEO and President Randy Pitchford in the livestream showing off the game. " You guys [the crowd at PAX] are among the first people in the world to play it. "I know it's hard to believe, but it's totally real. We can't let the Duke die."

GamePro did a review of the game. See it HERE.

Red Orchestra is back at TG with a vengeance! Seemingly overnight players have started to play again, and are starting to remember just how much fun this game actually is.

Because of the surge in gamer population, a 24/7 TG Darkest Hour Server was set up. Complete with tweaked settings for our style of play, a few extra maps (more being added daily), and a few other nifty features.

For those that have not played this game:
Darkest Hour: Europe '44-'45 is a western front modification for Red Orchestra. It focuses on the Allied invasion from the Normandy campaign in 1944, through the failed Operation Market Garden in Holland and beyond the Battle of the Bulge. It covers not only the intense infantry battles the campaign is so well known for, but also includes the epic large scale tank battles that took place in the later stages of the war. Beta 3.0 is currently available for download on Steam here.

The ArmA Pathfinders are a way of recognizing leadership. It is a prestigious position to hold within our community much like PCS is with Counter Strike. Pathfinders are leaders in and out of the server, and provide solid leadership as well as mentorship to all players. They are capable of leading missions, training players, and helping to foster this community as one of maturity and respect.

Recently, the Pathfinders have fallen from the eyes of the players. When asked; “What is a Pathfinder”, the response most times was “...an Admin”. The current Admin Team and Pathfinder Members have been working hard to revamp the entire program, and bring it to the forefront of TG ArmA.

It is with great honor that I, as an Admin as well as a current Pathfinder, present you with the fruits of our labor. ...
