Excitement is high in the Tactical Gamer Community as Bohemia Interactive has released the long anticipated and newest iteration in the much loved Armed Assault series. The newest release in the popular series is set on the fictional islands of Altis and Stratis, mirroring real world Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. Planetside 2 features action that ranges from massive operations, employing a mix of infantry, armor and aircraft all the way to a small infantry recon squad on an ATV and everything in between. There's something for everyone, whether you're a pilot, ground pounder or tank driver. The game is built around teamwork and does a nice job of rewarding players for their supporting actions. The title is free-to-play and the developer, Sony Online Entertainment, has been providing great support and is adding more playable areas, a recent addition being a virtual training arena. ...

The Tactical Gamer Project Reality Server Returns!!

Tactical Gamer is very excited to formally announce the return of Project Reality to our community. As most of you know, we've been away from Project Reality for the better part of a year. The reasons for our departure are many, but we now feel that there is a place for our server and style of play in the PR community again. With the impending release of 1.0, we feel it is time to get rid of the dust bunnies in the server and fire up Project Reality once more!

Tactical Gamer prides itself on being a community of mature, teamwork-orientated gamers. We believe in playing games with tactics and teamwork, and have little tolerance for other styles of game play. While not all agree with our philosophy, we find that we have had incredible success with it in the past and see no reason why we cannot do so again. If you didn't have the opportunity to play on our Project Reality server before, please browse through our forums to see what we're all about. ...

We are currently recruiting new members interested in fighting for freedom against space fascists and left wing liberal hippy alien worshipers. We will be a multi-faceted outfit, having Infantry, Armour, Air support and Logistics elements working in conjunction to achieve supreme victory for the NC and its freedom loving people. ...

Zombies versus Survivors, itís all the rage right now. But what happens when you take the zombie/survivor idea and cross it with the capability of a top notch first person shooter engine like ArmA 2? You end up with something that smacks of Left 4 Dead, but set in some obscure place like Kazakhstan. You get something that has cool guns like Killing Floor, except thereís nowhere to buy ammunition. You end up with the DayZ mod.

DayZ is set in a region of Chernarus, a primarily Russian speaking area. That means all the maps, street signs and directions are in Russian. Donít worry, itís not that big of a deal. The idea is that the general population has been infected and become zombies (or zeds as some refer to them). You are one of the lucky survivors, and you start out at a random starting point with a handgun with some ammunition, a backpack, a water canteen, one or two items of food and some very basic medical supplies. What you do NOT have is a compass, a watch, a map, a flashlight, any other high end goodies such as night vision goggles or a GPS. That doesnít mean they arenít out there, you just have to find themÖ without being eaten. ...

Tactical Gamer proudly presents our round-robin review of NaturalPoint's TrackIR 5. TrackIR 5 is the latest in the lineup of TrackIR products that allow gamers to literally use head movements to look around in a game. Allowing superior situational awareness over a plain mouse and keyboard setup TrackIR 5 becomes essential to flight simulators and tactical first-person shooters.

This is a round-robin review with contributed content from Wicks, Dredge, Warlab, and myself (Acreo Aeneas). We have tried to be as thorough and complete in our review as possible, but given time constraints and the sheer number of games that support the TrackIR 5, we were only able to cover the use of the TrackIR 5 in a few select titles. ...

I propose a question to you my brothers and sisters at TG, have you ever loved a series or franchise of gaming so much that you'd dedicate you life to seeing that franchise or series grow by making your own game? Well one such young woman that I had the chance to speak to today gave me her answer: "Yes". I had the opportunity to speak with "Sammi" lead designer for an independent Castlevania project entitled "Sonata of Melancholy". Now a lot of us remember the good 'ol days of gaming, back when the newest fanciest graphics engine didn't way on our minds. What did, was story, and gameplay, that's what mattered to us.

Sammi has spent the last 4 years writing a new story for the Castlevania series and working on a design for a new game in the series. She has a long road and a lot of work ahead of her, but I think she'll get there. Now for those of you not familiar with "Castlevania" take a look at this: ...
