Jungle Terrain SS!

Jungle Terrain Screenshots

tell me what you guys think! You will be able to navigate this terrain and the map can be built into it.

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

That looks cool for a starting point. How did you do the deformed base map like that?
Did you use another CAD system then import it somehow?

I'm really good with some CAD software but just can't seem to get my head around mapping for HL. The interface just seems so crappy and awkward.

If I could import NURB's surfaces into hammer, I could do some crazy stuff for mapping.

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

ghost, alot of people model in cad and export stuff. i'd look around the web for resources but going to hammer basically requires a .smd file. There are exporters for it and if you wanna model something like trees!!! that would be awesome or even plants and flora.

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

i used a terrain generator that Nem built. It totally rocks as you can see. although i built the heightmap myself which determines how the regions are raised and not raised. That i did in photoshop which i know like the back of my hand

Is there any way, within CS, to allow players to climb the mountains, but at a snails pace? It would be kinda cool to see snipers able to reach mountain peaks, but I wouldn't want to see them able to run right up there...

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

You could probably do it with jumps from object to object... staircase affect... ledge to tree branch to ledge.. etc...

Dog

The tumble down when shot could be really cool.....

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

dog has the right idea but that would be quite a bit of work, the reason is you are dealing with randomly generated terrain. It would take alot of editing to get a "stairway" type deal to the top. The good thing is this, the terrain generator actually built a path around the large mountian in the middle. you can't get to the top but i can always build a tree stand into the mountain face that you can climb up. The trick will be making it so you have to get off at several points so you can't rush right up.

FYI: If anybody wants the hammer file to work on, please just ask i'll email it to you. If we work on it as a team, we'll have each persons single version which we can use to get stuff out of and put into a master file which i'll hold.

you can reach me on msn at cjshelby@sympatico.ca and email.

Great idea. One bad jump and you lose some health, too! Make it even riskier to send a sniper up there...

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

I think a more appropiate way will be build a ladder then make a real thin ledge make another ladder, that will be risky enough since we don't want to make it undesirable completely.. will keep the idea in mind though.

I have some good news though, i've been able to create custom blend textures using valve materials. there maybe some small downloads needed but no biggie, we're talking a couple kb's. This will give the map the ability to be uniquely natural in the transition from many different materials.

I'm really excited about this map and i have some good things going!

Ah, you just reminded me of the dam map! There was a sniper's ledge that was only accessible via a rope that you could climb. That location could cover the upper bombsite, but it was out in the open and a counter-sniper could easily take you out...

Re: Jungle Terrain SS!

I like Vulcan's revised idea about how to get to a sniper point. Practical for the mapper, fun for the player.

The map just keeps getting better.
