Re: Should model consistency be enforced on the server?

Thats quite unfortunate, I thought it was a good idea; o well. Never-the-less if you guys ban custom skins I will support the decision.

Not those that want them, but those that want to keep them at the expense of gameplay.

I will grant that my comment was harsh and it wasn't directed at you, I merely quoted you for the first part, then started ranting. I should have been more explicit in where I directed my comment. I'll apologize for that.

On another note: define "relatively new." Considering I've been here for a year (which is ageless in the area of "Internet Loyalty" and I would have been a member for much longer had I found this place at it's inseption: I'll take your comment as some resentment of my previous remark.

I just raised a point that we don't want to get into the habit of not allowing things just because of a potential for abuse. If we start doing that, we effectively are telling everyone we don't think they are responsible enough to play on the servers without some sort of big brother system limiting us to things it belives is right.
Well, considering the average intelligence of CS players, I think it's needed.

It's just like running cheating-death probably kicks out some players we might enjoy at TG, you have to lose some things to help the community that is already here. But Wyz's choiced in that have still garned quite a few new TG members.

I joined the TG NS server for the first time because I knew while it wouldn't completely rule out the idiots, it would at least show that the admin cared enough to keep the blatant ones out. Hence, I joined, enjoyed, then paid monthly.

On another side note: the best thing would be a cvar that let people keep there custom models installed, but disabled them when they were on TG. Quake had the "sv_pure 1" cvar that handled it perfectly. In fact that one command pretty much killed any cheaters at all.

Well, QUAKE had that cvar. I don't recall that one for HL, but I could be mistaken.

So what about those that always complain about lag whenever they die?

People are going to always come up with an excuse, no matter what. It doesn't matter if they were just simply outplayed, outsmarted, etc, it will always be something else other than them that caused their death

This is false.

If I really want to improve my odds of being incorrect when I open my mouth, I'll throw an "always" or a "never" into what I say.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

The relatively new comment was in response to your quote, the one I took as being directed at me. As far as I knew, you never played on the TG CS server when it was on the half life 1 engine and I know you haven't been around long enough to know my playing style and what values I support in the TG community.

Re: Should model consistency be enforced on the server?

If I remember correctly (and some of the old veterns can correct me or verify my memory) but we never turned the model consistency on. It was discussed at one point but we never felt that the amount of cheaters out there justified removing this option from the players on the server. Has the amount of cheaters changed since then or is it simply a fear of what may become?

Re: Should model consistency be enforced on the server?

Let us not rule out the possibility that the choice was made poorly last time.

Prove it

While I may not be able to prove it is factual, I seriously doubt that you can prove it is false.

The people I see online whining about this or that seriously makes me belive that those people will always find something to bitch about to make themselves feel better about their playing skills

Well, since we didn't have a problem with widespread cheating back then.....

Re: Should model consistency be enforced on the server?

First of all, a lot of things have changed in 3 years...including this community and the people who make it up. So, just because 3 years ago people here decided that model consistency was not important does not mean that the people here today feel the same way. Also, back then we were mostly a close-knit community with fewer public players coming in and out. Now, both servers are full day in and day out, with many new faces coming in all the time.

This is not an argument for or against it, but I wanted to point out that this is a new time and a new place. Precedent doesn't have to apply.

When does my face become an old face and when do I become part of the knitting?

A question, if the elders decide to impiment consistancy, does that mean if I use custom skins I have to reinstall CSS or will the server just not load them for me? Not sure if that make sense but I hope you understand the point.
