Actually, when TG used to be N42 Tactical Gaming our CS servers were ALL private and required an application process simply to get access. The servers thrived for quite some time.

When CS started to fail it was the direct result of most of the players migrating to other games and simply not wanting to play the original CS any more. Others chose to simply whine loudly about nobody playing CS but never actually bothered to hop on and play themselves.

All games eventually fade and die and that was the time for CS to go.

Re: Private CSS Server

To the admins: Nick mentioned something about this but here is what happened (is happening?)
Members will be playing and a non-member will join. This non-member will join and play until the NEXT MEMBER joins...at which point the non-member will be kicked off. I saw this happening consistantly...for every member that joined, a non-member was kicked off, even though there were never more th an 2 or 3 non-members in the server and the server wasnt even CLOSE to being ful...(I think we had about 8 max)

Comments?

Re: Private CSS Server

Only four public players are allowed. I saw players being kicked when the teams were 4v4 and such. Many players had the TG tag, but that doesn't mean they are supporting members. We'll have to look into it...

I have brought this to Wyz's attention already, but the details you provided are very helpful.

Re: Private CSS Server

I may be a dissenting voice.

but...

I've always enjoyed the two "open" servers....
we had members on both,
we had options over which map or who to play with
There were enough none TG members to keep it interesting (yes i am aware of the Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times")
and from my anecdotal perspective the servers were "more full" which made for fun games for me.

Were they all private? I couldn't remember for sure or not, that was a few years ago. The true CS fans never left, yes, we were few. Thats why I turned to pubs and DOD, pure CS addiction, like crack.
I also don't see myself donated/contributing to TG monetarily because I am affraid that CS may die again anytime, then I will have no place here. The only reason I may contribute is just so I can get on the damn server stupid reserve slots.

BTW, has anyone heard from Eternal lately? (Brian Frain) been trying to get ahold of him, I know he moved. I haven't seen him online in quite some time...

Re: Private CSS Server

Public server died, we hopped on the Semi. Had a 2v2 group going, had someone join and it bumped me. Just providing info, seems like it allows 4 public people, and then starts booting them for supporting? at 4?

Aggressive Defense (an oxymoron): A naturally occurring situational event where a defender is caught in a role reversal anomaly. Usually associated with lack of practice, discipline or map awareness in a team based conflict.

That's right. It starts kicking non-reserved players beginning with the fifth player, regardless of how many of those five players has reservation.

That's not what I want, and the admins are working to again change how this server is used to add more value for everyone involved, especially the supporting members.

More soon.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Re: Private CSS Server

I havent been able to play since this is in effect.

TacticalGamer.com - CS Source (Public) || 14 / 15
TacticalGamer.com - CS Source (Semi-Private) || 0 / 15

You 's should open the other one before you loose all your regulars again.

I'd get a membership but there's 2 much choke on the servers right now, either there is too many games running on that box, or it just aint powerful enough. Everyone chokes on it.

Im sure all the regulars would be up to pitch in some cash to get a honkin colocated box dedicated to cs on that pipe. Have 2 12 man servers running on it, with rules and good admins. You got yourself a phat community. Lotsa people are fedup with the lamers on cs. This is a good place.

Apophis, u can get a good dual xeon server with lotsa ram and fast drive for a good 1500$us.
Id' say there's over 30 regulars that play daily, charge 5 bucks a month, who cant afford that? that's 150 a month, there's your finance, charge a little more, there's the bandwidth. Server's your'se and paid for in 10 months.

**** i'd pay 10 bucks a month to play on a tg no choke cs server.

I get no choke. Maybe it's your l33t settings.

Re: Private CSS Server

I also get no choke. I used to get choke for about 1 second when the other server changed maps but that doesn't happen any more.

Re: Private CSS Server

Ugh... I'd say about every 5 minutes or so, I get choke that ramps up to over 50 and then back down to zero over the course of about 20 seconds. VERY annoying when it happens in the middle of a firefight...
