Re: Week 5: D vs E

Sorry I missed the match tonight, I was sitting on the side of the road with a broken

truck and no net connection.

Re: Week 5: D vs E

Life reared its ugly head tonight, unexpectedly, and I missed out. Many apologies too all involved.

Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here. Nightly I am amazed at the personalities and gaming talent. Root: Welcome to TG. Feel free to punctuate your sentences correctly. Monkerz: Its gonna take all my skills to beat those boys off in the future.

Re: Week 5: D vs E

Hey Vulcan, you can find a replacement for me on the team. I'm far too busy to actually set time aside to play for a scheduled match, and when I do and actually make it, I get to spectate instead of play. Teams were fair 5vs5, but when the other team is dominating already and winning every match anyway, what's it going to hurt if I jumped in? I didn't hear anyone on team E complaining when they played 2vs5, they didn't make the other team play down from what they had. If money was at stake, that would be a different story.

Long story short, this tourny isn't playing out as well as I thought an N42/TG server should and I wish to be removed. Thanks for the good times so far.

Are you talking about in a skills stack sense, or as in people aren't commited to be there when the matches are scheduled?

Not skills, the skills are definately there. I'm talking about the sportsmanship and general comradery between players. Maybe it's the fact that there are now hundreds more players compared to xlii days, but the point was to have fun while getting to play the game as it was meant to be played.

Last night was a perfect example between E & D. We (E) were getting stomped every round (as usual) but D didn't want to let the 6th person (me) play because then the teams would be unfair. Is it really that unfair when you're already taking every round? I don't care about the losing, I know we suck, but I didn't sign up for this thing to spectate.

I know we all have real lives but I work 2 jobs and have a family and when I get a chance to play I would like to do so. I know not to plan things on days that matches are scheduled, of course that's difficult for everyone since match dates aren't usually final until the day of the match.

I do hope that if this (a tourny) is attempted again that all dates for matches are predetermined.

Re: Week 5: D vs E

Well, we played our last two games a man down. You'd be surprised how far that extra man can go. Besides, Team F stomped us and we still had fun.

If any team shows up to a match with 6 players ready to play, and another team shows up with only 5, then the team with 6 players should definitely play with their 6, as it is not their fault that another team is short.

I believe we will attempt to do something like this. We'll have to see how many can participate on a fixed schedule first, though.

More important than late-arriving players being allowed to play is the expectation that gameplay continue with the playercount agreed to by both teams before the match.

D and E agreed to 5v5, and the only alternative mentioned before the match began was 6v6, if enough players arrived.

6v6 was never possible, so 5v5 prevailed.

I agree that a team that brings 6 players before the match begins should get to play with six players regardless of the other team's available count (for the reason you stated), but players who do fail punctuality should be given special accomodation only after a unanimous vote of those players who didn't.

Teams plan strategies and tactics based on playercounts. This is a competition. Once the match begins (with, by assumption, agreed-upon playercounts), I think it's to be expected that the late-arriving players are simply at the mercy of every player already in the match if he wants to change that agreement on the fly.

Bottom line: If I arrive after gameplay begins, I assume I'm not to play unless and until the opposition and my team request otherwise. Until that happens, I spectate.

Re: Week 5: D vs E

We did agree to 5vs5 and so that's why i stuck to that. However at the point muffin showed up it was quite obvious we were not going to win. Even before the match, none of us had played together but 1 match at most and practiced never. This is really a fault of the team but in good sportsmanship it would have been nice to have a better game than the one we had last night.

I just thought I'd mention that Muffin showed up during the second round of the match. He joined your team on the third. I'm not trying to be a jerk I just thought it was funny that you guys gave up so early :P
