Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
Two things to remember when compaing CSS to NS.
1. There are TWO CSS servers, so shortcutting may not be a good solution, particularly if one wants to switch. 2. NS has a handy little alias to make typing in 'CONNECT' easier... tgns.tacticalgamer.com. We don't have that in CSS. That said, I do understand Wyz's perspective on allowing people to queue up and wait for the server to open. |

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
Valid points. Perhaps we can provide remedies.
1. I would think two shortcuts on one's desktop is virtually identically convenient to one shortcut. 2. I'll have Apophis create DNS machine names for the servers (cs1.tacticalgamer.com & cs2.tacticalgamer.com, maybe). Even if we don't decide them critical to this thread's issues, the NS machine name has just proven too useful for me and others in the past to not do the same for our CS servers. With binds, you can join the other server in less effort than it takes to use the Steam server browser, unused slot or not.

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
In the meantime, you can make your own dns names! Add your own hostnames to your windows /etc/hosts (which, in microsoft fashion, is stored in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) like:
67.19.132.154 cs1.tacticalgamer.com ok, ok maybe I'm pushing it ![]() |

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
The problems with the shortcuts are that:
A. I may not know which server I want to join yet. B. What if I want to switch from one server to the other while in the game? |

and It was just starting to look too complicated for me... I'll try the keybind thing... I take the path of least resistance with this stuff... I go to favorites... pick a server, if it doesn't let me in, I try another... lather rinse repeat.... admittedly, I'm a lazy bahstahd

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
Not knowing which server I want to join is not a problem unique to the three options for joining a server (console, shortcuts, or server browser). Either way, I've got to make the decision. Only after I've made that decision does it matter how I join the server.
Again, I can setup binds to use in-game if I want to switch servers.

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
When I connect to the full NS server I use one of the least efficient methods. I start NS, go to my favorites, click server properties, copy the IP, bring up the console, and type connect and paste the IP. Even the way I do it is only a slight inconvenience.
I think the benefits are large for both supporting and non-supporting members. Non-supporting members and random players will no longer make futile attempts to join the 15th slot and they can now ask steam to auto join the server when a free slot appears. Supporting members will no longer have to wait for the 15th slot to empty out because a non-supporting member is currently trying to connect to the full server. Also, more than one supporting member will be able to join the full server at the same time. I have often had to wait for some guy to get kicked out of the 15th slot before being able to join the server. Every time that happened to me I thought to myself "I wish these were setup like the NS server." It just seems to me that there are substantial benefits for all players in exchange for a very small price for the supporting members to pay. I would gladly pay it. Thank you for these changes. |

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
Have we verified that the slot thing is working correctly?
In the brief time I was on, I only saw 7 vs 6, and a few people started joining but never completed their journey. |

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
Hmm... Actually, I think it will let 15 players stay on if the 15th joiner is a Supporting Member, but other players can't join the server when there's already 14 on (13 players + HLTV).

Re: reserved slots after 4/5 update
You know, I had forgotten about and have almost never used the "Join when slot becomes available" in the server browser. Why havn't I used it? Because everyone left slots open for reserved people to get in. As Wyz has pointed out, with the proposed solution I could browse while waiting to join, and it would auto join when it opens up. That is pretty nice actually.
