Greetings, I thought I would throw my two cents in on this one. Its been awhile, and I havent played CS since the middle of the tourney, but I know enough from the past playing here to hopefully be able to shed some light on the subject.
Root is a damn fine admin. What he does in his own judgement I have never disagreed with. It's understandable that there will be miscommunications about what a person is doing along with what a person is not doing during the timeframe of a game, and of course, within the PCS ruleset. I honestly believe all of this can be worked through. No, not everyone who plays on the TG servers comes to read the forums, and not everyone is familiar with the PCS ruleset. It seems to me the problem is not the PCS rules themselves, but personal interpretation of those rules within the individuals who play CS:S. Even when I played, I followed my own definition of those rules, but never to the willing detriment of my team. There are certain things I would not do, and though I might have seen others do them, it doesn't mean I can't ask to understand what they are doing. When I played, I defined my own map boundaries that I myself stayed within diligently, whereas someone elses boundaries might be outside my own. It doesn't mean I am right and the other person wrong, there is always room for improvement ![]() It seems to me the problem lies in the users, and some of the rules of PCS being inadvertently defined into arguments against specific styles of gameplay and teamwork. As an example, teamwork is a crucial part of what PCS and TG are about. A tactical rush could therefore be argued as being within the PCS ruleset as long as the entire team knew about it, but then again, the opposing team could state that they had abandoned the PCS ruleset by not staying with objectives and turning the server into deathmatch. Think about a DE map, with the entire CT team "tactically rushing" the T's. Maybe just a redefinement of PCS rules enforcement should be considered? In the above example, though a tactical rush might still fall within the lines of PCS rules as long as it is teamwork, I honestly believe that OBJECTIVES are the one true goal, and teamwork should be the fulfilling of that goal. If someone could concievably be abandoning the primary objective, then right there should be some sort of disciplinary action. Yes, you could argue that wiping out the entire T team before they could plant a bomb is guarding an objective, the real life scenario is much different. If one thinks of PCS rules hand in hand with real life scenarios (mind you CS:S is a game), the CT's would not know where the T's are at, let alone know where T "spawn" is to wipe the entire team out. Therefore, there is no objective that is being fulfilled, only deathmatch. Perhaps CS:S needs rethought abit. Because there are specific things that are counted while playing (money, kills, deaths, team score), specific players will of course be trying to achieve each of those as best as they can, and dying as little as possible. A good player usually stands out and stays near the top of the team list in kills vs death ratio, but TG and PCS are not about your kill to death ratio. Yes, it is important to some who play here, and is regarded as a measure of skill when on the server, but it shouldn't get in the way of ones objectives and teamwork. Some people just don't care about the bomb, the hostages, or anything else other than frag count. Root, I take my hat off to you, and I'm glad to see that you are still here kicking, and helping to keep everything in as good of a working order that you can Keep up the good work, and if things seem too harsh, I'll come back on so you can pwn me all over since I'm so rusty ![]()

Re: What is EVERYONES Problem?
still Batman. yes he is a great admin. but he isn't god of the Admins. he just deals with different aspects of the admin process. he develops all these great tools, but what if there was no Root to enforce the rules on the server to utilize these tools?? then what?? those tools would be worthless. so everybody has their place.

Re: What is EVERYONES Problem?
Welp, not sure what happened to cause this...but I will say that Root does a good job...and he has popped me on the back of the hand once or twice myself when I first started hanging out on the TG servers.
The "boundaries" on the servers are constantly being stretched to the limit by many of the regulars...I have been on the receiving end of it quite a bit lately. And, me just being a player, get frustrated seeing it happen, and even more so when a |TG| tag is on the players name that is doing it. So, I can completely understand Root's reaction at times when it does happen. That being said, when I log into the servers, I actually have a sigh of relief when I see |TG Admin| Root in the line up...cause I know I wont have to deal with jackasses during my gameplay. Keep up the good work Root!

Yes Wyz introduced the (highly popular) captains games, but you give the appearance of suggesting that someone else wouldn't have done at some point. All the admins contribute their varying amounts of time and skill. I believe I've made that point before, but I'm happy to keep doing so until the point gets home. This thread is all rather silly. Monkerz got hacked off because I was in a mood because some people here don't have the slightest interest in PCS, despite having a TG tag. We've all vented in this thread, but it's really time to move on. Monkerz, you're going nowhere. You can't play CSS anywhere else, because you have the PCS bug. Most, if not all of you who dislike me do so because I've smacked you down when you've been out of line. News flash - you can be here for 20 years if you want, but if you do something wrong, and I'm an admin, you'll get the hammer. Read the SOP forum posts. Follow the rules. Don't argue with *any* admin in game. Don't post crap about admins in the forums. Don't go bitching about admins when they leave the server - you are all perfectly capable of wording an intelligent, articulate and accurate PM to whichever admin is involved. I've seen evidence of that from more than one person here, and I don't think there's been a single PM to me that wasn't successfully resolved. Oh and don't blame me for things without bothering to check if another admin (or the swear filter, or Wyz's safeguards) actually did whatever you're complaining about. I put the word admin in my tag so that guests to our server have an obvious point of contact if they have any questions, not because I'm on some power trip. If you can't handle the distinction, thats an issue that you need to resolve yourself. If being an admin is any sort of reward, then it's a recognition that you embrace the PCS way of playing. If you think it's easy, try dealing with 3 or 4 pubbies all doing different fragmonkey things at once, half a dozen players complaining about them, and a noob trying to get some genuine help all at once. Then deal with all manner of similar issues on a daily basis. Throw in your own mood changes, personal issues, the weather, and then have the internet break and lose all your packets, and it's not a picnic. Don't get me wrong, being an admin has its rewards, but it can be a hard task at times. Its touching how many people have lept to my defense, but hard as this may be for some here (friends and otherwise alike), I don't want the amount of attention I get. Maybe its inevitable, as I'm on the server so much, and my keybinds are notorius. I dislike the fact that the other admins don't get the praise I seem to get. This isn't a one man show. Just because the other admins have lives, doesn't make their contributions to tacticalgamer any less than mine. Just because we all act differently in any given situation doesn't make *any* of us wrong or right. It seems to me that there's been a lot of playground antics going on round here, and it's going to serve no purpose but to cause a lot of much bigger rifts in the community. There is the danger of it spreading - many here play at least one other game on TG, whether its BF42, or NS, or GR. Excuse my language, but this **** has got to stop. Root

Yes, I'm awesome. No one's disputing that (except T_BEAR, but he can go to hell). Saying that a TG admin's job is easy is at best incorrect and at worst offensive. Comparing me to someone else helps nothing. Here's the deal (and I DO know what I'm talking about): TG is like a symphony, and every "player" is key. Each member of the administrative "pit" has his part to play. Yes, some parts are louder than others. Some parts start movements and some parts trail movements, but each part really is very crucial to the audience clapping at the end of the day. Apophis answers PMs all day. Paypal issues. Forum problems. Admin disputes. Covert complaints. Covert compliments. When he's done doing that, he uploads files to servers, or purchases servers and sets them up for games. He performs backups. Evaluates various software packages for our many needs. Because of the many things *I* do which you guys never know about, I know for a FACT that HE does TWICE as many things that *I* don't ever even know about, which means there are OODLES and OODLES of things that man does to keep this place running which you guys never know about. My efforts have already been obtusely outlined. No need for further discussion there. Then there's phyllis and Cing. They bust their ass reading every post in the Sandbox (which can often be like walking through feces up to your upper lip), making sure that those of us who want to trade current issues discourse like adults have a place to go to do it. Tempus comes out of nowhere and gives us tournaments for a popular game. He researches ladder systems and ranking and elimination procedures. He determines which maps would provide the best gameplay at what point in the tournament. He manages the humans to make sure that teams are formed and matches are scheduled. He posts results. He gathers feedback in an effort to make the second pass add even more value for us than did the first. asch and Killer brainstorm about what will bring players back into BF1942, a potential-rich game that, for some reason, fell out of favor a while back. They motivate and coordinate players to meet on the servers at certain times. They too keep the server asshat-free when they're there. Mateo steps up to a challenge he's never dealt with here before: new game, new server software, new players, new challenges. New potential. And then you have the guys in the trenches, including me, and including Root. These efforts, too, have been sufficiently detailed in this thread, and it's all very accurate, and it's all very demanding, especially in CSS, the game which has recently been most active and has, since the mid-1990s, offered to admins around the world the highest intelligentplayer-to-smacktard ratio of all online multiplayer games. As Root said, there are benefits and luxuries, but please know they're earned. But without the many different sounds, the audience goes home disappointed. And yet.. you don't ... most don't .... ideally no one would... notice the very hard work that many, many people put into making this place .. just.. "happen". Apophis is good at what he does. Tempus is good at what he does. Root is damn good at what he does. I'm good at what I do. People aren't given positions like this unless they fit a present need (that's a combination of two things happening at the same time -- a skillset and a need it can fill). But, to visit what Phantom said, it really is necessary to each contributor's success that the next contributor be working to pull his weight. It's because so many people, including the players too, are so selflessly and sufficiently ... and often silently... pulling their own weight that this place enjoys today the success that it has earned for itself.
