It's nothing more than an attempt to add value for the supporting member.

For a long time now, I've been manually managing the SteamIDs of supporting members. I managed them for reserved slots. I had to track (w/ Apo's help) when memberships came and when they went. It was a lot of work.

With Apo's help, I've designed a system by which the SteamID in a supporting member's profile is automatically propogated to the server, making their reserved slot automatically available within a very short time of it becoming active in the forums.

Once this was done, it was all too easy to adapt this system to manage also the list of players who may use the TG tag on the server. This was done to prevent complete strangers from using the TG tag. Depending on the situation, it has or hasn't been effective, but it alone did not begin the storing of SteamIDs in forum profiles. Rather, this was done to add value for the supporting members (see above).

you could have the |TG| tag for all us normal folk and then a |TG-P| meaning tg proved or something like that for those who earn it. or go the other way and make every start at |TG-R| for recruit or something along those lines. most fols out there recognize the meaning of the R so if someone get the |TG| tag and head off to make an fool of themselves on the server everyone will understand that they are new and don't really get it yet or sum such. if we prove we can handle pcs without our heads exploding then we could graduate to the |TG| tag without the R to show we arn't just wearing the tag cause we registered in the forums but because we actually put some effort into playing by pcs.

I think personally think there are too many players with |TG| tags. It seemed not too many months ago that when there where |TG| players, i really looked forward to a tactical match, now it seems that the |TG| for some players is just to belong to a clan (of course i am speaking of the minority..............). I have been playing on the servers for a few months, but dont feel i deserve the |TG| tag yet.........yes, i try my best to play PCS, but still not quite there.........

It should be more elitist!! i do like Cerevox idea though, with distingusing 'levels' of |TG| tags. That way, people will strive for constant imporovement.....working up the ladder. The |TG - E| (tg elite...) would be 'role models'..............

i think ive got my brain figured out now. yesterday i said something stupid on the forums that got me banned from the passworded server. then today i come up with an aweosme idea. this happend last week or whenever it was i made the big long rant then annoyed everyone. hmmm. after i say something stupid that is highly offensive to everyone in the area, watch my next couple of posts for something inresting. must need to dump the crap out of my head first before can put good idea out.

I think only proven PCS players should be able to wear the TG tag. Not just anyone who registers on the forums.

I agree but how would that be done? Could admins specifically grant these privaleges? A password won't work as one slip would ruin it. Just my thoughts.

In Joint Ops, maybe in other games, several players used the |TG-42nd|, an elite |TG| squad designation.

Notice that when I joined, I didn't ask for that designation. I asked Luna, who then ask Apophis, for the right to use the tag. If they had said no, well, I would still be GWJMateo (gamers with jobs).

I asked for the tag because:

1) I felt I understood the Tactical Gamer philosophy, style, and rules.
2) I was willing to act on that understanding.
3) On public servers, I wanted to advertise TG. If someone asks, and they often do, "What does |TG| stand for", I point them over to this website.

Anyone that has not reached that point, should not have the tag.

Since we are not a clan, we are a community, I feel there is a heightened duty to uphold the standards and practices of Tactical Gamer no matter where we play-we stand apart from the legion of hackers, tk'ers, and general morons that play games online.

As such, the |TG| tag should only go to those that are willing to uphold the standards of the community, and are willing to serve as an ambassador of those standards, when they are "off-reservation".
