Ah. I thought you were talking about a gun, but it turns out you're talking about an airfix kit The SA80 is a fantastic rifle, if you keep it in a case, take it down to the range for some target practice, and then clean it and put it back in a case. If however, you want a gun for soldiers to use in the real world.....

There's a longstanding stereotype in the UK, that the Irish are stupid. Irish people feature in a lot of english jokes. When the english bought the SA80, the Irish bought the Steyr Aug. Now tell me who's stupid?

I really like the idea, except for the time it would take to download. That's only once though, I believe. And maybe it'll discourage those insta-deathmatch people.

Ugh... I have ZERO personal experience with the SA80, but I have a Steyr AUG issued to me by my agency and it's a complete piece of crap. I've never seen a weapon malfunction more...

It shouldn't lag up anything, I mean, you only have to download it once. I'm pretty sure. I never actually checked out that server. I'm going to get on there later on today.

I've heard if you push the magazine in too hard it falls directly out, and that the Steyr manufactured magazines... well someone once told me about the time the rounds all flew right out of it when it hit the ground after the "piece of crap magazine didn't stay in the goddamn gun."

I've seen old model sigs that don't even do that, and that's what they're friggin KNOWN FOR.

Yes, AUG magazines suck. Bad.

Re: Cool idea for the CSS server :D

ALL of this talk coming from someone not even old enough to drive (with a licensed driver around), let alone own a gun!

I feel special haha.

Anyhow.. for a personal defense weapon, specifically home defense, what would you reccomend getting? This should probably be on a different board but I am not sure where, so I figure I'll ask someone who I see is on and appears to know something about guns.

There's no federal law that restricts rifles or shotguns to any age... Are you sure Florida does?

Depends... You live in an apartment or in a house with some distance to another house? You planning on actually practicing with the weapon, or just letting it sit in the closet until you need it? Are you willing to risk looking like a fool while actually training in your home?

From least amount of training/practice to most, I recommend:
.38 Special Revolver
.40, .357 or .45 pistol or revolver
12g pump shotgun
AR15

The problem is with penetration of walls. The .357 is probably the worst (will penetrate the most number of walls) as that's a BIG piece of lead going VERY fast. The shotgun is next depending on the load. The other handguns are next, and surprisingly, the small bullet and high velocity of the .223/5.56 round makes the AR15 a good choice for situations where you don't want to damage stuff on the other side of a wall.

There are so many other variables, though... And a lot of the decision comes down to personal preference, too.

Re: Cool idea for the CSS server :D

The house we live in is.. well by most peoples standards it can be considered a 'mansion,' but from some people who live in this neighborhood it's "pretty big."

Also the weapon would be for target shooting as well, and my mom previously had a .38 that I basically shot the hell out of.

And also.. are the newer Sig pistol models as good as I'm hearing? The 239 for instance, from everyone I've asked they basically worship it.

I'd go with an AR15, personally... But then, I'm pretty comfortable with them. They are extremely easy rifles to learn, too. Check out this one. Again, check with your local gun dealers about buying one of these. I think that in some places there are no age restrictions

I've heard the same things, but I've never shot one. I'll get to soon, though! I'll let you know after I shoot one. I've heard that their DAK trigger is like HK's LEM trigger. If it's as smooth as the trigger on my USP, then I'll be a VERY happy camper.
