Re: Got Crash Since Update?
Updated to the win98 Nvidia 77.72 drivers. No effect. Still get:

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
i used the beta driver.....http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_do..._2k_78.05.html see if that works, and uninstall your drivers first....if all that dont work maybe u need to do a driver cleaner and try again

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
Hey, I wouldn't mind not having to swap out my Gentoo hard drive for the win98 hard drive every time I wanted to play something. I haven't really messed with wine lately. You Linux HL2 guys use Transgaming, or can you point me to a place with good comprehensive instructions?

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
I don't think I've posted this problem in the thread, but there's another annoying problem I've had since the last update - certain objects are invisible until I get closer to them. Objects such as crates, boxes, filing cabinets, windows, etc. In other words, I can't see them until I draw closer to them, then they finally appear. It's almost like I have a wallhack at times because I can see targets behind or through these objects.
Now I do have an Nvidia card but I don't know if that's the problem, beings that it's not exactly 'new'...Geforce 2 Ultra. I imagine this could be something simple like a quick command in the console fix, but I don't know. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
I finally got that issue fixed with a little help from the steampowered forums. If anyone else is having this problem (I think I heard one other person saying they did, don't remember who though), here's a link that should help you out...
http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...hreadid=340997 It looks to be a problem for people with older video cards. A quick simple fix none the less though.

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
I'm starting to think they took the concept of HL:Lost Coast, where they ask themselves, "what if we weren't constrained by PC limitations", a little too far, actually making the whole engine fully non-backwards compatible with anything under 2.4GHz/1G-RAM.

I'm going to put Cedega 4.4.1 on a hacked MEPIS (TacticalOS base), I could post some step-by-step directions over on the TacticalOS blog if you like. |

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
WHOA! emerge -s steam reveals a result, games-server/halflife-steam!
cedega and point2play are manual-fetch. I'll have to mess with that later.

Re: Got Crash Since Update?
WOOHOO
Steam Support just sent me a message, they fixed the Win98 .dll problem. Sure enough, it works! Back to my win98 gaming hard drive I go! While I wait for Dystopia 2 to download, I think I'll write to the forum there.... BTW, Mateo, don't give up on my doing Steam in Linux. I did emerge those packages, just haven't tried them out yet.
