It was discussed. Root said no. At this point it's like taking on the Borg with this subject. "Resistance is Futile"

Re: VIP for NON PCS players?

Ok guys...now seriously. I realize that VIP is for the "provens"...and i came to terms with that And i realize that me making this thread aint gonna really help much for this cause, bcuz I know that Server 2 is for the priviliged, and rightfully so. I just wanted to try it out and hoped that some of the other non-provens out there would back me on this to show that there is a majority of us who wanted this.

If you want to try it, there are hundreds of servers out there running the mod. If you want to play it the TG way, you'll have to continue to work towards earning PCSP status. At the end of the day, we have to have incentives, otherwise no-one will bother trying to earn PCS Proven.

Re: VIP for NON PCS players?

I understand that just fine root...and i agree with you there about it being an incentive. I just thought i would throw it out there and gauge ppls responses towards it.

Re: VIP for NON PCS players?

The main problem here folks is that server 2 is completely underutilized. Since the VIP mod was released I hoped and prayed that server 2 would become a popular place for the provens to play CS and experience the delights of VIP. Instead I find the server to be always empty. It seems that we simply just do not have enough regular PCS players on the servers at the same time to fill server 2 and as a regular I find this so frustrating.

We all understand how the community works and that regular players should be encouraged to work towards the PCS status and the privileges that come with it - but there must be a way that we can accommodate certain players like Dirtboy, who is in my opinion is on the fringe of becoming PCS. Would it not be beneficial to admins and all other PCS players that we have VIP games with fringe players who are registered to TG and are regulars on server 1 so PCS provens can oversee their tactical ability, knowledge of PCS and if needed give guidance of the type of play we all want to see on these servers. Wouldn't that be more beneficial to this community than looking at empty servers?

Re: VIP for NON PCS players?

that's why we've set up play every tuesday on server 2

i'm always willing to play a few games of VIP every night if i'm not at work, i just don't bother sitting on server 2 for half an hour hoping someone will come

It would simply be an administrative nightmare to add VIP to server 1, especially now SM's have votemap.

Re: VIP for NON PCS players?

Wyzcrak has long struggled to find the perfect harmony between 'free-for-all' and 'locked' on the TGNS server. Since I first came to TG, the NS server has undergone:

Cheating-Death: Extremely restrictive. New players often left, uninterested.
Modified CD: Wyz mods cheating death, allowing regulars and SMs to disable CD for certain maps.
Optional CD: With an annoying message if it was off.
CD for non registered: If you registered in the TG forums with your Steam ID, you no longer were required to use CD.
Now: CD no longer supported on TGNS. If you are registered in the forums, you play fully fuctional with no messages. If you are not, a message reminder will pop-up from time to time.
(it should be noted that, altho opinion and unconfirmed, Wyz was more concerned about 'problem players' than he was about actual cheaters)

In that tradition, maybe you could change the password on certain nights, and allow PCSP members to distribute the temporary password to those they feel will make good use of it. The password would change back to normal at the end of the 'demo'.

That way, PCSPs will have someone to school, and non-provens will have even more of an incentive (having seen how awesome I'm sure it is).
