Thumbs up Re: Scrimmage AAR (After Action Review)

1. I liked the format. I have no idea if smaller of larger teams would amplify efficiency and/or fun. It probably depends on who's involved, etc. This just means that matches are open to experiment.

2. Nice length. No complaints.

3. Good choices. The second map shook things up a bit, being that I was on very unfamilair terrain near the second set of hostages, but I enjoyed trying to adapt and seeing others attempt to do so too.

4. Wasn't too bad. Perhaps later timeslot would do even better than the one chosen for this match, but, again, I have no real room to complain. It worked.

5. Some mics did not work. Orders were sometimes garbled. But this is probably no fault of the persons who played the game. We adapated and did well. Jon did an excellent job of commanding units (a progress-and-cover method) and was open to receive suggestions from other teammates concerning tactics for the round. My teammates also did an excellent job of keeping in touch with each other, taking steady control after our captain (in one or two of the rounds) died. I, however, learned a sore lesson: get a mic. Typing doesn't cut it so much.

6. Very. This was probably one of the best matches I've been lucky enough to play on TG. Thanks for setting most of it up, Big C, and thanks for the invite, Jon. Hope to do this again.

And Jester, just for you I'll use radar.

Re: Scrimmage AAR (After Action Review)

Here is another thought:

How about using TeamSpeak for events like this? Do you think this would help?

I dont think Teamspeak would help much but we can try it. To me it is usually a pain.

Re: Scrimmage AAR (After Action Review)

I believe teamspeak would help, because I know some people (like myself) have mics that aren't all that great in the game, but in TS they work just fine.

I think that four rounds per side makes the first round too important. Other than that it was great!

i don't think using TeamSpeak will make the communication any better, personally I'd rather just stick with normal communication through CS:S

Re: Scrimmage AAR (After Action Review)

Great to see all this feedback.

BigC has done a huge amount of work getting captains games organised, and now this match. There's a fair bit of stuff that goes on behind the scenes to get these events happening, especially in terms of making sure the quality is there. Thanks for all your efforts, BigC.

Allow me to respond to some of the points raised :

Last year we had 2 PCS tournaments. Prior to the first one, the admin team had a very thoughtful discussion as to team size. We agreed that 6v6 was the best team size for our competative events. I'd suggest that team sizes is not something that's currently broke, so I have no plans to fix it.

That should be the standard in our normal gaming. These events should help raise the regular standard of play.

This seems to be more of an issue of late, than it used to be with the tourny matches. Is anyone able to shed light on why?

This has been the subject of discussion amongst some admins and dev team members. I think that currently, we don't have enough players who are on every or nearly every day, and we don't have enough players who have earned PCS Proven status. Both will be necessary to have a successful ongoing event.
