Re: Cutting edge technology for CSS

I knew that just closing your eyes would be, for practical purposes, unrealistic by itself, it seemed to me that in application it would be more akin to throwing your arm up in front of your eyes, and the mod maker didn't think it through that far :P

You would have to walk over it again to pick it up, but that's enough time to lose your guard.

There are soooo many things in Counter-Strike that don't make sense in real life, one of them being the inability to do anything about being flashed, even if you see the thing land right in front of you. The best you can do is turn completely away and STILL be partially blinded. Why not hide your eyes instead?
Because in real life that wouldn't change a thing. Flash grenades produce between 1 to 1.5 million candela of luminosity. If one is in front of you closing your eyes will still render a good deal of your photosensitive cells in the retina useless.

If you turn away, your vision might be saved, but you will still be very impared and disoriented due to the loud pop that flash grenades also generate. Tubes filled with liquid in your ear canals are responsible for your balance and orientation. The hairs on the outside of these tubes will still be temporarily damaged and your sense of balance and orientation can be disrupted by sudden loud noises and flash grenades are designed to take advantage of this.

Closing your eyes next to a flash bang would probably only reduce the visual impact by 10%, and you would still see have impaired vision for 2-4 seconds. Turning away from a flashbang would still result in dizziness and impaired combat effectiveness for 2-4 seconds.

This information was all found easily on the web about flash grenades or flash & bang grenades, and my primary source has been wikipedia.

The bit about the aural disorientation is interesting, thanks. I'll drop my case now :P

That would be sweet - everyone going for arm shots! LOL

I imagine shooting someone in the arm and then shooing the gun away from them everytime they try to run up and pick it up - hilarious - in my head anyway

After reading that I got the old Chaplin routine stuck in my head of him chasing down his hat or cane...every time he reached for it he would kick it out of reach...LOL!

Make sure you grab the latest map pack from the downloads section of the forum. I think we're on m21.iwd now.
