SWAT 3 implements a very realistic and interesting system. If you reload in a a firefight (speed reload) you drop the mag and lose it. If you aren't in a firefight, you keep it and whatever ammo's left in it, and can reload it later.

Several other tactical shooters (most of the Rainbow Six games, and some others) implement a similar system, where you keep a magazine that still has bullets in it, and can reload it later. I believe the mags are also sorted by remaining rounds so you won't load a 4-round mag if you have one that still has 10 rounds, or whatever.

Raven Shield also introduced another cool and realistic element related to this... if you reload while there is a bullet in the chamber, you don't have to cock the weapon and you get that bullet plus whatever's in the new mag (so you can have 31 bullets in an M4, for example).

I had a MAC-10 for a while several years ago. I'm not sure about what the "movies" show, but they DO go through their magazines very rapidly (they don't use clips). It was a rather expensive weapon to fire as a result. We won't even get into how horribly inaccurate the thing is even at a moderate range.

Trying to base weapon dynamics on what you see in the movies would be a VERY silly move for Tactical Gamer. If anything, it should be based on the reality of the weapons and practicality of their use and not what Hollywood decides to depict.

Diplomacy is the art of saying "good doggie" while looking for a bigger stick.

Oh man, just to screw around, I downloaded a Minigun skin for the M249 and then set its ROF to 2000...

The first time I tried it against bots, I used cheats to buy it during the pistol round. It was Dust and I was a CT. I encountered the Ts in the hallway where they always go the first round, and I mowed all 8 of them down in less then a second. I couldn't stop laughing for like half a minute. It's impossible to control at 2000rpm but the ridiculously high ROF means you don't even have to aim.

I just discovered I can change the accuracy for the SG550 (I'd tried with some other guns and it didn't work so I had assumed it wouldn't work for anything), so I'm gonna try to balance the autosnipers better and see what other guns I can adjust.

If you balance the accuracy I could see that gun becoming less of a WMD and more of a long distance suppressive fire tool.

Trying to figure out how the accuracy values actually affect the game is a massive pain in the ass. I can't figure out more than the barest trace of a discernable pattern to it. I've been going trial and error for two hours and I haven't quite got it figured out yet, and there's only three variables.

Urban Terror did this. That game was actually far superior to Counterstrike in it's day. I'm suprised to see they are still going strong and are making updates after like 7 years of development. A little dated looking graphics, yes.. but some of you folks might want to take a peek at it.

This is assuming you still have a copy of Quake 3 sitting around.

Realism mods get my vote for any game. Good discussion!

Red Orchestra has this as well.

I REALLY wanted to implement this in our CoD2 mod, but unfortunately round count is actually hardcoded into the executable. I can't mess with it, and it bugs me.

I used to play urban terror back in the day. Great mod and modders could learn a lot from that team.

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted an update, but I really needed a break from it. I have tried and tried, and I can't get the SG550's recoil pattern right. Either it is substantially the same as before, or it recoils just how I want it to, but the base accuracy is worse than any of the other guns.

That's no big worry- it's banned anyway and I doubt anyone here would shed any tears at seeing it stay that way :P

We're not running it yet, I know that much. Root said he'd give it a trial run this past Saturday, I forgot to ask about it :P
