There is no virus in steam, just disable the script blocking in your norton options.

But its Norton thats creating the virus and a clan member of mine for dod 1.6, He says the same thing is happening to him so he took off the Auto protection.

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

The scripts that steam creates when it runs are acting like trojans in the eyes of norton, thats the virus you keep getting.

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

Go into your control panel and select remove/add software. go into that menu and select Norton to be removed, go thru it all and completely remove it. Then download AVG install and update and be happy. You will thank me later

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

ok where do u turn off this script blocker w/o turning off the auto protect?

And on the basis of which is better Norton or AVG until this incident ive actually had a lot more success with Norton then i have with AVG. I was getting the opposite to where Norton was picking up more viruses then AVG. But if AVG works better on your comp people go for that. I like Norton cus it just works better on my comp and plus i really didnt pay for it so for me it was free.

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

All u have to do is:
1 Go into the security center of norton(usaully in the tray on bottom right)
2 Select settings, click on auto protect under basic security.
3 Hit configure and a new window should pop up. On the left there should be some subclasses.
4 Under Advanced options select scan exclusions. Here there are two areas, on for scan and one for auto protect.
5. To the right of the auto protect, their should be an "add" button, click on that and browse until u find your TEMP folder. Mine is located at c:\documents and settings\name\local settings\Temp

Hope this helps save some of the frustration and swearing i did while fuguring this out.

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

Actually I think that the anti virus community has a problem with steam. As I had problems even getting steam to even register on my desktop let alone run any programs from it. After some trial and error I found out that my antivirus software was the cause. So now for me to play any steam run programs I have to first disable my antivirus program then turn on steam after a while my antivirus program turns itself back on and everything runs fine until I restart my computer.

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

Won't disabling real time scan of the temp folder make it vulnerable to attacks from the web and even counterstrike? I was looking for forums with this trojan problem and found some old ones that say that there are trojans floating around that try to steal your user info, cd key, etc. I want to play counterstrike, but I don't want to leave my temp folder vulnerable and I especially don't want to leave my temporary internet folder (inside temp folder) vulnerable since it is what collects everything from websites. Also I am running symantec and it is also having the same problems so what do you guys think? Is it the virus scanners or is it steam? I havent run any updates on steam and i just updated my symantec and this happened. Let me know. Thanks,

Re: Trojan Horse with CSS?

well i just excluded the temp folder and not the internet temp folder from the scan. I havent had a problem with it so far so we will eventually find out but if a virus tries to go into any other part of the computer it should be blocked so there shouldnt be a problem with excluding the temp folder. Also you can just make sure to clear the folder out every now and then.

By using any Microsoft product, you're asking, PLEADING, for viruses, whether or not you use antivirus software. Disabling the scan on one folder is not going to significantly affect your chances of getting one.
