Installing player skins

OK... I did a search and didnt' find anything on TG about how to install a new player skin. I looked elsewhere and found

http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/2106
and a couple of others similar

Here's the short
I want to install the bender pack just for fun for a bit (I used to have it on CS 1.6)
http://www.fpsbanana.com/skins/2891

But I can't get any of them to show up except the hostages.

Am I messing up or does there need to be some sort of server option to allow other skins to show?

Where does one place the skins exactly?

Any help would be appreciated... I'm feeling particularly dumb right now.

Re: Installing player skins

I'm not sure but I think custom player skins are restricted on the TG servers. Custom weapons and hostages work fine though.

Re: Installing player skins

Custom player skins work fine on the server, but you rarely ever see them because pretty much everyone uses TG's own skins, which override any other skins.

Re: Installing player skins

that would explain it.. I installed them also. Is the overiding a server thing or some setting on the skins themselves?

Re: Installing player skins

It's the server. Basically, if anyone choose the Standard option at the start of the game, you'll see them in whatever skin you currently have for the player model. However, people rarely pick that option.

If you want to test it, start a local game and play with bots.

Re: Installing player skins

Actually player skins will not work on our server even if you have them installed and someone is using the default skin.

Re: Installing player skins

That's odd.. The other week I saw someone running around in my custom Arctic Avenger skin... Could it be a bug?

Re: Installing player skins

Does the server check some sort of embedded hash code in the skins? Perhaps you just had a skin that used the same filenames as the ones downloaded from the TG servers.

Re: Installing player skins

I just tested and confirmed that only our skins will work, I had to make a few updates to the server for it to operate properly.
