Re: Knifing... again.

Actualy from decent range if you take any pistol in the game head to head bursting on a target spray, the 5-7 is one of the more accurate. You also dont have to slow down your shots as much to avoid accuracy loss, and they upped the damage. Accurate, quick rate of fire, 20 rounds, and increased damage sounds like a winner to me.

Aye, there's no situation in the game where I'd rather have a knife in my hand than a weapon with even a single bullet.

In reality, even killing someone silently with a knife, is extremely difficult, you have to physically overpower them and immediately silence them THEN kill them.

Same thread, new Idea to add to the topic of knives.
How about modifying the server so that taking out a knife doesnt make the Garth "Schwing!" sound. That way it could be used as a more realistic weapon for stealth. I know that most of the knives I have owned do not make any sound when unsheathing them, so why do ours? Still I agree with previous posts that knives shouls only be used when out of ammo and all that jazz, but the noise should go.

Re: Knifing... again.

I find that most people complain about being knifed because it is embarrassing, they should have been paying better attention instead of focusing on what is right in front of them..

I dont know about your knives, but a large knife such as what is used in cs are usually in a composite or metal sheave, and does make a bit of noise when they "release" from it. Though I must say not a noise that you could hear thru walls as in cs.

For example the knife that css bases thier model on is a Gurkha or Kukri. It is 13 3/4" overall with an 8 1/2" kukri blade. That is going to make noise when you pull it out lol

Re: Knifing... again.

I just recently saw a knifing on the server. I think it is very appropriate to knife someone if you are trying to sneak up on them. I wouldn't mind the sheathing noise being taken out. If you wanted to unsheath a knife and you wanted to do it quietly, it could easily be done, even if the knife was in a metal sheath.

As far as realisms goes, I would think that a real special operations soldier would use his knife in a close combat situation in order to make it quiet and clean.

Sure if the situation happens that you find it better to use a knife. However there are those that will sacrifice teamwork and objective to get a knife kill and that is not acceptable. You shouldn't be focusing on this much less making it a habit.

I agree with you 100%, though it would be funny to see a newbie charging in with just a knife, hehe.

Re: Knifing... again.

I think knifing is made pointless due to the radar (my thinking on the purpose of the knife is to get a quiet stelthy kill and not alert your enermy to your position) however on css as soon as a man goes down most people will check the radar and see where there man went down, still giving your position away (infact more so than a ranged shot since you have to be next to them for a melee attack).

Re: Knifing... again.

Samurai swords would be an unnecessary burden. You're already carrying an assault rifle.

Too true. Radar makes knife tougher, although the newer radar makes that a bit better. If only it didn't make that obnoxious noise when you drew it, it would actually be more useful. And didn't take the same amount of time it takes to draw a gun, at that. Safer to pull a pistol (and just as quick) and cap them in the back of the head.
