Re: Demo Discussion

The graphics in SOF does not look to good, looks like a mindless kill everything game and blood and gore added for the wow factor. Maybe I am old but it just feels like a game younger teenagers would play and say wow look how I killed that guy.

I personally prefer to think more when I play a game and thats why Crysis fits me much better.

Re: Demo Discussion

To be honest, I might slightly enjoy Crysis (Haven't tried the demo yet) but I really don't give much a damn about the game itself. It's really the abilities of the Crytek engine that have me investing in it. Heck, I probably wont even buy the game until some good mods get on their feet.

Tweak the demo so you can use every weapon, including tanks/choppers, and fight an alien - http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=522

It's certainly no Soldier of Fortune 3.
Every game should have excessive gore in it, but realistic gore (unlike SoF). The more gore a game has the better. I mean, wouldn't it be sweet to use the nano-suit strength ability to rip a guys head off and throw it instead of just punching the guy in the face? You can punch down a tree, why not punch someones face off?

ripping someone's head off would be neat, but honestly this game has enough gore to satisfy my taste, you shoot someone and you can see a little blood splatter out, then once they hit the ground they bleed some more and there's blood stains on the sand honestly i think the Procedural animations are 10x better then any gore, throwing a korean into another korean and watching them fall in different ways each and every time is something i've never seen untill now

Okay, everyone has to go do this now, unless they are worried about spoilers for weapons/equipment.

Stupid files are on rapidshare, though. I downloaded map 4 before map 5 and rapishare wont let me download 5.

EDIT: I think map 5 is more of a play area. Map 4 has one new weapon and a bunch of new equipment. Tank, helicopter, powerboats... There's a bunch more soldiers to shoot down. Also there's an alien right at the beginning. I had to run past him and get the Korean to take care of him.

If anyone see map 5 to download somewhere else, let me know.

Re: Demo Discussion

wow that is what scares me about EA. its a demo and yet there are more levels that you can play just by changing a few thinigs and then the whole script for the game is in the demo?!

Re: Demo Discussion

XP
AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.42
2gb RAM
8800 gts O/C 320MB core 580mhz, mem clock 1700

How well will this run on my machine, according to the test link on this thread I am about a hairs breadth under recommended. The CPU requirement is 2.8, as I have dual core will this take care of things. As I'm not running Vista and have no burning desire to install it yet I assume a lot of the physics stuff will be turned off.

When everyone's finished laughing at my ignorance any help on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Re: Demo Discussion

Its not EA, its Crytek. I actually don't mind and thinks its pretty awesome. Shows that they want people to mod the crap outa stuff and have fun with it. Sandbox isn't installed by default, so its not like you can stumble upon it and "ruin," it for yourself. As for the script, well, the general story's been known for quite awhile, but the specifics are whats left to be seen.

A.wickens, you meet recommended. I run an AMD 4400+ X2, and that meets recommended at 2.0GHz. As for missing a lot of physics, nope, you won't be. The only time you'd miss that stuff would be in multiplayer. The dx10 vs dx9 differences are only graphical, nothing game changing, and some of them you'd be hard pressed to notice.

LOL. Actually, it is in your face. With blood turned on you will sometimes get some sprayed onto your viewpoint when you get hit or when you kill someone messily close up .

I know, that sucks. I tried every way I could think of to pile a boat full of dead bodies...

Re: Demo Discussion

If you are curently playing in DX10 mode, how much would you still like the game if you could only play in DX9 mode? No destructible environments, limited volumetric lighting, no pysics?

If you are currently playing in DX9 mode, how much do you think you are missing out on the game by not getting the DX10 goodies?

Just curious.

Look up to my previous post. You don't miss anything with DX9 vs DX10, just extra graphic goodies like superfancy awesome sun and OMGsauce shaders, etc.

Re: Demo Discussion

Okay, maybe there should be a spoiler thread for that modded demo map. I finally managed to download map#5 and Holy crap.

Don't even bother with map#4. I thought it would be different, but it's just a less advanced map#5.

Can you knock enemies unconscious (sp?) without killing them? I thought it would be good to knock a few guys out, stick them in a boat and let them drift away...
