Re: Demo Discussion
I just checked all the pictures. I did not think I could be impressed but check this out.
FPS are low right now but thats what new graphics cards are for . At last we have the game that will just put PC gaming in another division than consoles. This is going to drive hardware sales, I guess that why ATI and Nvidia is releasing new cards in a few weeks. |

RB, do you have AA/AF turned on at all? Some stuff looks a bit jagged. And that FPS counter in the top right, is that correct? What are your system specs? Holy crap though, that water looks even better than I had seen before!

Re: Demo Discussion
I have an E6600 at 3.2Ghz I turned down low some items and it runs fine. Not sure what the FPS is, but I can't detect any stuttering. Well, this is the first game that has really stressed the 7900GT KO at 1680x1050. Heck, I can play Bioshock maxed out, but not this game at medium. Upgrading was already in the plan, and the game still looks really nice. Next week is the 8800GT release, and I'll pick up one of those.
The demo is basically exactly the same as all the in-game previews we've seen. Land on the beach, go thru some Korean check points, get some hints about some nasty stuff going down. My observations: - The Korean soldiers seem to take a major amount of hits before going down. These guys are like supermen. Once in a while you can get in a good surprise hit or headshot, but usually takes quite a few hits at distance to take any of them down. Not that it's that hard, just takes a while. - Weapons are pretty innacurate when zoomed in. - AI doesn't seem all too hot. - If you are into a stealthy game, you are going to have to have alot of patience. It's seriously so much easier to run in and slaughter everyone. Even reinforcements. - Shotgun seems totally useless at anything over 2 feet. You really have to be standing right beside a guy to take him out with it.

Re: Demo Discussion
my rig is crying right now lol. I have a 4800x2 and an 8800ultra and i had to drop down to medium to make it playable. This is with a 1920x1200 res with 4x AA mind you. Even on medium the game still looks incredible. Weapons seem inaccurate if youre not in strength mode..switch to strength and youll see a dramatic increase in accuracy. Stealth does take patience but i love it. Nothing like sneakin up behind someone, grab em, and throw em over a cliff lol. AI is ok, they see to take cover well and gave me a run for my money on hard. Gonna try delta next.
They do take a lot of shots sometimes but headshots are youre friend. Ill just knock that up to good armor they wear lol. Id rather just sneak up and throw a chair at them anyway lol Im glad they gave speed mode a buff. They made the run faster and also added a faster default move speed. Favorite moment - halfway down the beach, after some firefights, i can across a jeep and he started rippin me a new one so i switched to speed and high tailed it out of there. I turn around and hes STILL trying to shoot me through the trees he saw me run through....and the trees just got tore up and started toppling behind me. Amazing effect and it really made it very immersive. The water is by far the sexiest part of the game. That and the faces...if they had source engine lip-syncing, id swear they were real. You really need a fast processor for this game...if you have a high end dual or quad with gtxs or ultras in SLI, youll be in for a massive graphics treat. |

Re: Demo Discussion
Yeah, I've been playing through Far Cry again to remember how to keep anger in check due to difficulty. It was a game all about headshots, mercs become supersoldiers pretty much, wielding bulletproof riot shields in one hand and an assault rifle in the other.
In the beta, the shotgun orginally sucked royally, but got a bit better with the 3rd client. Hopefully patches help some of the stuff you mentioned. As it stands right now, I'm kinda on the verge of not caring too much with how the beta has affected me; I'm more a bit more excited for mods.

Re: Demo Discussion
Thanks for the tips. I have not gone through the Beta, so one run through the demo here was all I got. Strength mode it is.
AI is probably the best I have seen and maybe they are better in harder modes, I just played normal, but they are still strange, running out of perfectly good cover for what seems like no reason, standing beside dead comerades seemingly unaware that anything is wrong...

Re: Demo Discussion
Hmmm, in the beta, weapons felt too randomly accurate/inaccurate. You had the same accuracy strafing as you did crouching zoomed. FarCry did a fairly decent job with accuracy, just didn't decrease enough with the longer you fired. A 5 or 6 burst with the m4 was the most deviation I notice, no matter how much longer you hold fire down.

Re: Demo Discussion
Keep the info coming. I might need to pre-order but I guess my 1900XTX will hit ebay as fast as I get to the main menu.
To bad I allready used my try shoot of 8800 a month back, I bought a card at Frys to try a 8800 GTX. Their 1 month return policy was great. But as Crysis Demo was delayed my plan to try it with the card failed as I tried it for 1 month and then returned it. To bad CompUsa is not around or I could do the same with them. I just dont want to by a 8800 when the new cards are just months away. |

The Tech Report is reporting the following:
"You know how the Crysis demo was supposed to be delayed until tomorrow? Well, as it turns out, Crytek and EA have decided released the demo one day "early," effectively un-postponing it. The demo is available on FileShack, and it will eventually go up on Nvidia's Nzone website, as well. As we explained earlier, the demo includes "Contact," the first level from the full game's single-player campaign. Crytek has also tossed in its Sandbox 2 in-game editor, giving modders a chance to sharpen their mod-sticks before the full game comes out on November 16." And here you go chaps: http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/11333/Crysis+SP+Demo And another: http://na.llnet.cdn.ea.com/u/demos/Crysis_SP_Demo.exe (getting about 250kB/s) |
