Re: Demo Discussion
I wonder if there will be a release date patch and what will it fix.
The AI could use a bit more work.

Re: Demo Discussion
Finally found settings where I am satisfied. 1280x1024 all High (post processing modded: r_DepthOfField=0, r_MotionBlur=0, Sunshafts=1) 2x AA gives me 30+ fps the majority of the time which is surprisingly smooth. I may actually consider picking this one up, although I will probably wait a couple weeks see how things develop.

Re: Demo Discussion
So yeah, take all my negative/pessimistic comments I had going into this from my beta impressions and throw them away. This is gonna be one hell of a fun singleplayer.
Was fooling around with the sandbox editor a bit tonight too, and can definitely see some quality maps being produced once there are some more solid tutorials out there. Even if you have no clue what you're doing, fire it up and drag and drop some weapons/enemies onto the island map. Just don't save.

Re: Demo Discussion
Is the sandbox editor included in the regular demo download or do you have to get it from some place else?

Re: Demo Discussion
The sandbox editor is included, but you have to go to the Crysis SP Demo directory in your Program Files folder to install it. There's a subdirectory there with the install file.
You need to turn UAC off to install it in Vista for some reason, so I haven't intalled it to play with it, yet. So does anyone know if you can assign keys to suit mode's, or even macro them? It looks like the BF2 Comm Rose where you need a mouse movement to be able to select the suit mode no matter what you do. It would be nice to be able to swap cloak quickly, or drop in strength when you need it.

Re: Demo Discussion
You can macro them if you can record macros with your keyboard. There's also an option for suit shortcuts which are somewhat handy. Double tap T/space for strength, s for armor, crouch for cloak, and shift for speed. They aren't always reliable though. Double t/space is very, very useful.
Sandbox is really fun, spawn the aliens in and have fun. The attack chopper feels very weird; tornadoes are pretty bitching. Some of the sounds and whatnot are missing though, because items aren't fully in the demo. If you can get up in the air to parachute, you can switch camera modes while parachuting, and upon landing, are in 3rd person. Very awesome to see how well the animations are done; you don't clip anything, its very cool to see yourself landing on rocks and shifting your feet accordingly.

Re: Demo Discussion
The engine is amazing. The quality of the story seems pretty solid. Overall it hooked me.
One amusing thing to do is punch the wooden boat (on the beach where you run into the first enemies) until it turns over. Punch it into the water and hop on it. While on the boat you can face front and punch it to make it go..physically impossible in the real world, but it works here. Alternately, turn the boat over, fill it up with all the crabs, birds, chickens, and tortoises you can find and send it out to sea. Overall I was disappointed with the AI. Maybe I'm picky, but having a soldier walk up to the body of the guy I just killed and wonder aloud if there was anyone there is pathetic. Equally sad is the fact that you can pick a guy up, toss him, and then cloak and within a few minutes everyone is back to acting like nothing happened. And just plain lazy programming is the mannequin soldiers who drive the gunboats. Get a gunboat, take it out and kill the gunner of another gunboat (without destroying the boat). Watch the driver continue to roam around without any attempt to attack you, evade you, or even turn his head for that matter.

Re: Demo Discussion
They're not overly terrible, but definitely have a lot of glaring issues dealing with the above examples.

Re: Demo Discussion
just for giggles i was testing out settings trying to maximize performance while still making it playable. I upped shaders and objects to high and put post processing on very high. Good freakin lord is volumetric lighting sexy. Looking at the sun through trees is absolutely breathtaking. Definately worth the performance hit. med shaders to high shaders really puts a hurtin on my fps though. I went from 40-50 to about 25-35. Not that great but well worth it for the gorgeous lighting.
So now im running everything on high with post processing on very high and getting 25-35 fps. Not bad considering i have an aging cpu (4800x2) and a high res (1920x1200). Im still trying to figure out if i can get anything else on very high without impacting performance anymore...prolly not right? |

Re: Demo Discussion
PC Gamer has given Crysis a 98%.
Like a good movie, the plot gradually unveils its secrets bit by bit, and there's a genuine sense of discovery as you learn more about what the researchers have uncovered. More than a gimmick, the suit enhances stratigic thinking as well. Saying that Crysis is like other alien shooters is like saying that Citizen Kane is the same as Weekend at Bernie's because they're both about dead rich guys. The highest praise I can give Crysis is that I eventually stopped thinking about it as a game - as in, What does the designer want me to do here?.... With it's open ended island setting, sandbox design, and emergent gameplay, Crysis gives you the unprecedented freedom to explore the world around you and solve problems in the same way you might if you were an armed guy in the jungle ....Highs: A graphical powerhouse; imersive, open-ended ssandbox that encourages emergent gameplay' well-paces storyline' meticulously detailed; engrossing multiplayer; included map editor. Lows: Alien enemy AI not as spectacular as North Korean AI; enemies can sometimes absorb too much damage' a few minor glitches Bottom Line: Destined to be a clasic, Crysis is a creative and technological marvel that eclipses every other shooter released this year. I am not sure what to say.

Re: Demo Discussion
I would put it over EP2 and COD4 for a couple reasons
Call of duty 4 is very canned. i dislike that, this is why BF2 and ArmA are in my top two. they're very open. you can go any witch way you like. Crysis shares this ability on a level that brings you through the game, but the possibilitys in your approach are many. I can complete an objective in a village without killing 1 korean. episode 2 annoys me in the fact that its short, canned. and the "Same" old Half life 2. the game's fun. but once through and never touched again.
