Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Yeah I was reading up a ton this morning during the quiet times of work. Its a ridiculous deal and barely gets outperformed by the gtx in some scenarios. I'm gonna wait a month or so longer to see if they make a 8850 or something. I got my 7900 GT KO for $270 over a year ago, and can get a 8800GT for less?! Thank you sir, may I have another?

Another benchmark review of the GT. It shows (how correct it is I don't know) that the gts 640 still outperforms the gt in most games on high resolution with aa, and af. I suppose thats when the extra memory bandwidth kicks in. Just though I would post for the gts owners like myself who were thrown into despair upon the release of this card hehe.

It just reaffirms me not wanting to go through the trouble of the step up program, not worth the shipping costs and time not gaming for me. Having said that the GT is still a smoking card and probably outshines the gts with settings most people would use.

My card sucks now. I've gotta get one of these, so I can run Crysis in high settings at least.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

I am going to wait for November and see how well the ATI equivalent is. If it is worse then I will just get this.

Assuming I upgrade.

No idea how ATI is still in business right now. Never owned one, never will. Never even owned Amd chip either.

Because both consistantly have put out the best performance/price ratio products until the last year. AMD is still pretty good if you don't plan to overclock, but with C2D's now, your crazy if you don't OC the chip at least 25%.

I think AMD/ATI are working on making more efficient chipsets at the moment. This time next year I expect AMD to be pretty high and mighty once again. Its always back and forth, its Intel's turn right now.

Wise decision . The 8800GT is an amazing deal and after reading the article on Anandtech, it 's very tempting to hit a pre-order button to make sure you get it first.

I 'm very curious what AMD/ATI will come up with though, they 've been behind this entire year now yet I 'm confident they 'll surprise us next year.

EDIT: or maybe next month...

There will be two versions of the Radeon HD 3800, with pricing (yet unconfirmed and subject to change) between $150-250 depending on model, clock frequency and memory configurations. These will be competitive with cards based on the technology Nvidia announced today. We wanted mid-range cards and now it appears we have them. The question that remains is "what does the change to the graphics component of DirectX in D3D 10.1 mean to consumers?" That is the real key to both launches.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

GTS 640 v2 seem to have launched as well, This card seem to be not advertised but this card is suppose to be better than the GT but its more expensive. Its still unsure what performance this card will have. But if we can overclock this card to GT speeds it should smoke the GT. Fun times.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

Nice info people. I'm going to build a system with ghostdog's help, and I think I've found the card that is for me. I might hang around to see that ATI stuff though.

I almost wish I had a smaller monitor, with a lower res, so I could run all high settings too. lol

I know what you 're saying... 1680x1050 is pretty intense, but I wouldn't wanna trade my 20" ws for anything else (unless bigger ). Crysis stops at 1440x900 as highest widescreen res though... wonder if the final version will support higher, but I 'm pretty sure it will.

I was able to run everything on high with a 3 year old system and a 1 year old X1950 Pro, but once the physics came in play, things got kind o' laggy.

Re: 8800GT The one card to rule them all.

no. it supports up to 30" res (whatever that is i forgot). You only see as high as youre desktop resolution is (or native, not sure). Im running at 1920x1200 and thats the highest i see in the options.
