Crysis benchmarking results...
OK, spent the last 2 hours using the in game benchmarking tools for Crysis on my new, "state of the art" system...
My system:
XPS 720, Intel Core2 processorQ6600 (2.40Ghz,1066FSB) w/QuadCore Technology and 8MB cache
4GB DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz (of course Windows vista 32bit, only use 3GB's of it)
768MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
SATA RAID 0 With Dual 160GB 10000 RPM Hard Drives and 16MB DataBurst Cache
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, English
I run the desktop and all my games at 1600x1200x32@60MHz, (when able)...
I have been averaging around 80 fps with all other games (except Combat Mission Shock Force) with all settings on high or higher.
I have a Direct X10 32 bit Vista system. I ran Crysis on each settings 3 times and took the average. Below is my results and comments:
1600x1200x32 All Very High with 4x AA
CPU Average: 9 fps (like playing in constant FEAR slow mo effect)
GPU Average: 9 fps (like playing in constant FEAR slow mo effect)
1600x1200x32 All Very High without 4x AA
CPU Average: 12 fps (like playing in constant FEAR slow mo effect)
GPU Average: 13 fps (like playing in constant FEAR slow mo effect)
1600x1200x32 All High with 4x AA
CPU Average: 17 fps
GPU Average: 18 fps
1600x1200x32 All Medium with 4x AA
CPU Average: 43 fps
GPU Average: 40 fps
Didn't even try low, refuse to play any game at low settings.
1024x768x32 All Very High with 4x AA
CPU Average: 18 fps
GPU Average: 19 fps
1024x768x32 All High with 4x AA
CPU Average: 30 fps
GPU Average: 32 fps
OK... so it looks like I can play Crysis either at 1600x1200x32 at medium settings, it still looks good, is fast, and due to the bigger resolution seems more crisp.
or, I could play at 1024x768x32 at high settings, it looks and plays good, a little slower then the above option, and though the settings are high instead of medium, the higher resolution still looks a little better.
So, which should it be, thats the million dollar question, lol...
Whats your system, findings, readings, options... be interesting to know what others come up with, and with what system.Magnum

Re: Crysis benchmarking results...
run 1280x1024 very high, change the post processing cvars from edge AA 1 to edge aa 0
My 2 cents

Re: Crysis benchmarking results...
Here's my rig and crysis demo performance:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800 at a stock 2.4GHz
2GB of DDR RAM at a stock 400MHz
BFG 7950GT w/ 512MB overclocked to 630MHz core and 800MHz RAM
Win XP 32bit SP2
Not sure the disk matters but its a WD SATA 10K RAPTOR
I use 1600x1200 (my Samsung 204B looks like crap with any other)
All high is unplayable at a jerky 8FPS but wow it looks great if I don't move or look around
All medium and no AA and get about 20FPS (this is what I've been playing at and its glitch free)
All low hits about 30 FPS
Life is uncertain. Ride your best horse first.

Re: Crysis benchmarking results...
AA is not worth it in this game. The frame rate hit from even 2x is massive. I'd recommend turning it off.
First, everyone is different when it comes to "acceptable" frame rate. On the spectrum, I'm one of the guys that leans more towards emphasis on frame rate than pretty graphics. I just find that even slight stuttering kills the immersion for me. Plus, I'm competitive, even in single player, the fun for me is the challenge the game presents and if I'm losing frames in a fire fight I'm putting myself at a disadvantage.
That being said, with my 8800 GT and settings of 1280x960/All high except shadows at medium, the GPU benchmark gives me an average frame rate of 44.
That seems to be higher than what most people on the crysis forums are averaging but I still find frame rate drops too much at certain points in the game and am considering lowering settings a bit more. The bad news is that the first level of the game, which is what the benchmark is based off of, is not representative of the performance you'll get later on in the game.
There are some particular areas/scenes where it gets worse. There are actually two levels in particular where it got much, much worse, and I'm not done with the game yet.
Beause of that, don't set your settings to get you an 'on the edge' playable frame rate for the benchmark. It needs to be pretty damn smooth, because the game WILL throw stuff at you later which will quickly sink you into unplayable.
Why were you only using these two extreme resolutions? Honestly, if I had the GTX and the extra 6 frames or so that it gives, I'd keep my settings exactly what I have now to handle the tough areas. I'd suggest finding an in between resolution and leaving AA off at all costs.

Only bad thing about certain LCD's like mine, if you choose any other resolution other than the native, it really degrades the image on the monitor itself. Its a big con.

Re: Crysis benchmarking results...
I have already completed Crysis, but when i saw this thread i thought i give it a go on my system what my benchmarks are. I just tried very high - 1600 x 1200 - 4x AA. Here they are.
settings: very high - 4x AA - Res 1600 x 1200
GPU: min 11.62 ------ max 23.41 ------ ave 18.63
CPU: min 08.53 ------ max 23.88 ------ ave 17.57
I didn,t applied any patches, or anything else just the original game. Even i was listening to music and surfing on the internet (downloading).
My system specs: AMD Phenom 9950 Black Edition @2.7xx (215x13) -- ATI Radeon HD4870 @760 Core Clock -- Western Digital Caviar 320GB -- 4 X 1GB Patriot 800Mhz -- 800Watts Xilence Power Supply.
I didn't tried to overclock my cpu anymore i normally use it @stock and cool and quiet enabled which runs @1.3Ghz all the time i overclocked it just for the time being.

Welcome to the forum Salman. Nice rig you have there. What are your thoughts on the 4870 so far?
