Shame about Crysis...

I can't help to think what a waste CRYSIS is in it's current state... not that it's bad, but it has so much potential in a game but then it's got to ruin it with aliens... I hated the game at first, but playing it now in Delta mod with the realism mod makes it more of a tactical experience...

I am currently stuck at the point where you have to destroy the tanks and infantry in that camp where we sneaked into and rescued the Korean scientist...

1. Why is a Korean scientist wearing tight black pants and a low cut Tank top?

2. why in the hell won't that idiot that came in with me do any fighting? He's just waiting in the room with the chick till i clear everything and I guess he then leaves... why isn't there any real team fighting in this game, it's always lone wolf.

3.and how many times do i have to load the same thing over and over again only to die because I just can't kill all those damn enemies?

What I think, what I would like to see for CRYSIS... a couple of different, random type military missions?

ie: Escape and Evade... you randomly start in one place and have to make it to an extraction on the other side of the island, dodging or killing enemy patrols out looking for you. When you make noise or spotted, re-enforcements come...so stealth is key.

Simple missions... get to point A, blow up the tower, get out to extraction.

team missions, why not the same thing but instead of the idiot friendly AI that do nothing in this game couldn't it be a team of 4 real Multi-players?

so much potential for a game, and released with NOTHING... stupid alien story, death match MP, and a conquer the enemy type game that everyone plays like it's Battlefield Crysis.

OK...theres my rant, lol:

It's a great tech demo, just wish they would of added a game to it.

I have mentioned this mod several times in several posts on this forum,
http://www.obsidianedge.net/

I think this mod will make it to the TG community with a huge reaction. Especially because of its Tactical modes, plus a couple other modes that would be quite applicable with the community's gaming style.

Re: Shame about Crysis...

i firmly disagree with just about everything. I LOVE the game and the gameplay, and the aliens were fun to fight especially on the ship. there is a great game with the graphics but i suppose im the only one who thinks that. Although with a median score of 91% by all reviews, it seems im not alone

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/931665.asp

just because you dont like a game doesnt make it a bad game per se. One mans trash is another mans treasure, or so they say. to each their own, but i had to defend it.

also, to answer your questions -

1. because sex sells. period.
2. yea, it would be nice if he helped out, but crytek never touted teamplay in SP, so you shouldnt expect such.
3. shoot at head, use cloak

Re: Shame about Crysis...

It's a beautiful game but Magnum is right. The actual game play is not really that great. The suit isn't very useful and seems more like a game mechanism to make it less cheesy that you can survive a bunch of shots. The super strength isn't very useful other than the areas where you have to jump high. The cloak is pretty good but there still isn't much of a feeling that you can be ghost since you can't move much before uncloaking. The super speed is entirely useless to get anywhere.

The damage system is definitely twisted. You can slap a sniper scope on an assault rifle but it's hard to get head shots. The super strength doesn't steady your sights very much. Magically using the sniper rifle allows one hit kills to the torso when multiple assault rifle hits to the torso does squat. Head shots are sometimes ineffective when the enemy is wearing a helmet. You can score a hit square in the face and it somehow makes his helmet fall off. I've also tried throwing people and that's marginally amusing until an enemy easily gets up after a 20 foot drop. Although, he drowns within seconds when thrown into shallow water.

Performance is absolute crap. Sure, the game looks pretty but so does COD4 and that runs much better. This definitely needs some optimization to reach a wider group of players.

The last level was buggy too. I kept falling through the ship decks and couldn't get out. I restarted from a savepoint so many times just because of that. The AI is buggy too. They magically see grenades even when facing the other direction. They see grenades through smoke. They can't see you when cloaked even though you have this stupid red laser or flashlight on.

I'd give Crysis a 75% at most.

Re: Shame about Crysis...

I have a theory about the story (since it's so open for a sequel)

So prophet comes back and is all weird... He somehow managed to rig an alien gun to work with his nano suit in the field. He somehow survives being taken away by an alien. He goes off to the island before a nuke strike. Somehow he survives all of this...

Prophet = Alien or Brainwashed by aliens...Calling it

Ditto, I agree with the above that aliens == I'm out and although I'm a sci-fi fan, I like watching not playing aliens .

I have great great hope for the obsedian edge mod mentioned above to justify my purchase.

I would not put too much faith into the reviews. Since you do CoD4 got higher reviews, and like Magnum and Sarc, I'd say game runs like poop even on dx9.

Crysis is a great example of Graphics 1st, game play 2nd.
Far cry was also the first game with HDR, another words it introduced some bells and whistles in graphics much like crysis did now.
Far Cry was great, and it ran better when it was released then crysis does now on dx9.

Magnum is right, its a tech demo much like UT3.

Re: Shame about Crysis...

all i pointed out was that as a GENERAL consensus, it got pretty damn good scores. So, based on that and that alone, you have to accept that if you think it only deserves a 75%, then youre in the minority.

and the game doesnt run like poop for me. Granted i have the hardware but thats just like any game should be thats at the bleeding edge of graphics.

Re: Shame about Crysis...

I might get the game if a good mod is released. For now I've downloaded some mods for the demo, and that has saturated me pretty much. When are they going to have the balls to just release an engine the next time, and let the community build the gameplay!

I was quite disappointed also when I saw you aren't free in the game world at all. There is out of bounds on the island!

Re: Shame about Crysis...

well I'd say 5 gamers I know think Crysis is game of the year, the other 1000 agree with my post... it's nothing but a tech demo, and brings nothing new to gameplay... and all those review mags and online reviews... if it's not a user/gamer review... it don't mean crap.... GameSpot gives Rainbow Six Lockdown a 8. something... and Crysis a 9.something... and then fire a reviewer because he wrote a bad review... those types of sites and mags are in the pockets of the publishers and developers... there reviews mean NOTHING... it's user reviews and opinions that really tell a story.

and my post was my opinion only, sure you can disagree... but to call me wrong or ill-informed is the wrong answer.

IMO

Re: Shame about Crysis...

i never said you were wrong. If i did i never intended to. I also never said you were ill-informed. I used gamerankings.com for a comparison because it takes pretty much every major reviewr out there and uses an average which i think is the fairest way. There were some that gave it a review like you did which is fine and some who thought it was perfect, which is fine. Thats why its an average. Youre usage of one review site as an example doesnt go along with my gerenal consensus which is, again, why i used that.

also...i wish i knew 1000 gamers...maybe i wouldnt be so lonely then

p.s. go Giants!

Re: Shame about Crysis...

Sorry about my post, I could see where you thought I was directing my comments to you... you didn't say those comments, someone else did in that feedback/rep system.

sorry again.

and I think Crysis has alot of potential, I just can't believe what state the game was released in, not tech...I got a kick ass system and it runs very well for me... but more gameplay modes would of done alot for the game... SP terrorist hunt, SP escape and evade... MP co-op, or even more MP modes like most tactical shooters have (CoD4 for example)... hell, they didn't even put in TEAM deathmatch... just crappy deathmatch.... damn fine tech demo.
