Most of the features which make Crysis look so amazing are exclusive to DX10. Also, some of the performance enhancements in DX10 for the various imaging techniques used by the game would make it run terribly slow in 9 mode (if they opted to code for them). While it will run on Direct X 9 cards, it will not look anywhere near the DX10 original.

Sucks, I know.

Re: HD Crysis DX10 GeForce 8800 Presentation

I got my 8800GTX a week ago today, I love this thing - it's all so beautiful. I think it's overheating after a few hours of full on power though, however I'm sure that'll be hammered out within a few driver updates.

Umm No? Its not a software problem, its a hardware problem.

Ill be waiting for the 9 series to come out towards November instead. I can play it on DX9 until then. The 9 series will basically make the 8 series look like what the 4 series is to the 7 series.

-A terraflop Performance(8 series is about a few hundred giga flops)
-New smaller 80nm chips(Instead of the bigger 90nm 8 series chips, which will make it cooler)
-New GDDR4 Memory. Much bigger clocks, and just overall better.
-So much more.

They will own.

After looking around a bit to, It is actually instead that the 8900, and the 8950 will NOT be released, as they are just going to the 9800 card.

this is still under alot of debate, Nvidia has anounced nothing and more often then not. the inquirer is to be taken with a grain of salt. some things i will mention on though

moving from 90nm to 80nm will affect very little, yes better i would agree. but the card will only be a few degrees cooler.

GDDR4 memory is useless. unless you can take advantage of it. We haven't even taken full use of GDDR3. if you have noticed, DDR3 was released. as of the moment unless you get an extremely good processor and overclock it to the moon and back. it will not make use of it, same goes for GDDR4

A Terraflop is not likely. try at the max, a double of what the 8800GTX can continuously output. even in such. it will all come down to Driver performance in this age. if you can't write a driver that will take full advantage of that power. you can't have all that power. This early in the game for the 9 series, anything more then speculation needs to come from Nvidia.

Re: HD Crysis DX10 GeForce 8800 Presentation

I noticed a pre-sales link on EA that's not active, yet, and only looks like an order for the boxed version. I hope they offer it on EA Link as I've gotten used to not having to deal with boxes and media.

It looks like they are offering some kind of APC add on for PreOrders. Not certain how useful that is, probably not very, and will be offered on every torrent site within 10 minutes of release.

I will be being a DX10 card sometime before the end of the year, but the longer I hold out, I know the better off I will be. Currently my 7900 runs everything with full options or close to full options at 1680x1050.

Re: HD Crysis DX10 GeForce 8800 Presentation

Oh man, the game looks better and better every time I see it. I really really really hope its as frustratingly hard as Far Cry was on the hardest difficulty settings. The "Delta," difficulty sounds awesome if its true, no HUD and realistic damage.

check out the video on that page entitled "island walkthrough". Its fromt he first level of the game supposedly. Good lord are those graphics amazing. Not only the draw distance but when he's inside the hut, the lighting is uncannily real.
