Re: TG guild and Beta info
I hope this is going to be good.
Apparently there will be a monthly fee that will be similar to other MMORPGs monthly payments. How much is this likley to be?

Re: TG guild and Beta info
Hey guys
![]() I'll be scanning for all the information that can be found on the game to put up in stickies in this section so that people who are interested but unsure can find all the information readily to hand. Also if you think you would be interested in formaing a TG guild in order to try and get in on the beta development then can you: Go to http://www.darkfallonline.com Enter their forums and register Send a PM to Wulfyn (me!) on the darkfall forums with your TG name. This way once I have 10+ people I can register us (this is why you have to be registered on the darkfall forums). ++edit link updated - thanks Mishkan!

Re: TG guild and Beta info
You know, I'm still confused as to what sort of game play this game is going to offer. Real time action and strategy isn't very descriptive. Wulfyn posted that instead of regular MMORPG type combat, there'd be combat that's more like FPS. Any info or links that show or describe gameplay?
I've already registered and PM'd Wulfyn, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm getting into. |

Re: TG guild and Beta info
I'm currently assembling a list of links and writing up some descriptions to better exemplify what this game is about, and how it is likely to play. It is still in beta, which means things are still subject to change, development, or even being axed.
I think that the style of game they have gone for generally falls into 4 broad flavours, that for me makes it seem really exciting. 1/ PvP The game is more player vs player focused than player vs environment. PvE, is where player characters take on quests against the server, and where the ability to hurt other players is limited. The upside is that this produces a challenging and fresh game, as everyone is trying to get better than you. The downside is that PvP games usually attract a lot of immature and generally unpleasant types (a foray into the darkfall online forums may reveal some of these types). 2/ Non-level based, non class based. Broadly RPG games fall into roughly two types, level based and non level based. I believe level based character development was invented for Dungeons and Dragons, and the concept is simple. You accumulate some for of experience pointage, and at a critical threshold you acquire a new level. Level based games are also usually class based, in that you acquire a level in a specific class to deermine what that level adds to your character. Examples of classes are theives, wizards or fighters. The counter system to level based in skill based, where a character develops his abilities usually by performing those abilities. The advantages are that it allows a more open development, and characters of varying age are usually more equal. You also rarely design a bad character. the downside is that with freedom comes an ability to powergame (although this is somewhat leveled out). 3/ FPS combat RPGs can give very fun intense combat in terms of what decisions you have to make. This makes playing your character akin to playing a RTS game. The skill is not in the co-ordination of your play, but upon the decisions you make and the build of your character. Although there is nothing wrong with this style of play (for example in eve a hesitation of a second could mean the difference between winning or losing a fleet battle) it does not appeal to some who prefer more action. Darkfall promises magic and ranged combat similar to a standard FPS shooter. Melee combat is going to be third person view, something like how you would play a jedi in dark forces. 4/ Open world dynamics This broadly means that players are in control of how the world shapes. They can build villages and take control of cities, and this actually means something. Items are predominantly going to have to be crafted by players (anything from a lowly dagger to a mighty warship). There will not be the ability to simply roam the countryside and get everything you need, you will need to interact with other players. It also means if you want to be a crafter then you will have no shortage of having a big effect on the real world (good crafters will be able to make powerful magc items it has been said). There is also item degredation, so you will need to replace or repair your tools.

Re: TG guild and Beta info
Yeah, me too, under Erichk Knaar... (it sounds vikingish...)
I'd be interested to see what the pvp is like and if its possible to affect the world as much as you can in Eve. Oh, and to grief elves, I hate elves...

Re: TG guild and Beta info
received the PMs guys
![]() Yeah it does look good, i'm still bummed we missed out on the beta offering. Ah well - good things come to those who wait. Also looking at some of the personalities on the DO forums I don't think we're gonna feel too guilty about beating other people up ![]()
