Discussion:Darkfall Race's
Seems like we will have to pick a race or certain race's to actually live in a city together unless we live on our own island somewhere with no NPC's. Have any ideas on what race you are interested in the most? I just want to be an assassin so I really dont care what race I am unless they have a super sneaky race.

I like playing the good guys. If we are just starting off then I imagine the best plan would be to choose humans,elves or dwarves since we would get less hassle from NPC guards.
Once our feet are on the ground I guess we could change if we wanted to.

Oops, I'm an idiot. There will be Orkish villages also so I don't suppose NPCs attitude towards a race will be as big a factor in selection as I thought it might be.

I think it will matter a good bit. From what I understand if we have a human, elve and dwarve town then the NPC guards will attack you if you are an Ork even if you are in the same clan and visa versa.

Racial hatred is a big part in the game. All races have villages, but it is the inter-racial conflict which counts. For example an Orc player could live with Orc NPCs and Human players could live with human NPCs. Additionally players of all races can group together, but a human pc with an orc npc (or vice versa) would not work as teh npc will attack their racial enemy.
It would be hugley advantageous from the sounds of it to all be the same race if we want to run a city or something like that. NPC interaction will be a big part of this game (you can set them tasks, such as to sell things in your shop or guard your caravan). Of course that would depend, like Turbo said, on us all agreeing on one race.

Personally I have more of a desire for us all to be the same race than i have to be any particular race, so I will probably go with the flow in that respect.
Hopefully as more racial information comes out we'll all have a better idea what they are about.

I've been thinking, and unless I'm mistaken the Mahirim and the Orks are not natural enemies. So that kind of combination would work. But it basically narrows down to three choices: Elves/Humans/Dwarves would be collectively average in everything, Mahirim/Orks would excel at combat and stuff, and the Alfar would excel in wizardry.
Though if the building system is flexible enough, we could manage all three affiliations: a mini fort for each group in a triangle around a central fort for all three. The three mini forts would have NPC's, and act as our defense. There would be affiliation-specific entrances into the central base. The main problem I've had is determing exactly what the racial bias's are. I know humans hate orks, but is it possible for orks to get along with dwarves? Who are the mahirim with/against? Can the Mahirim join Elves/Humans/Dwarves? |

Mahrim and Orks would excel in combat for sure - at least from a "hurty" point of view. But they will be slower and more cumbersome.
I am going to look up exact racial alignments. I believe (but have not seen it explicitily written) that Humans and Mahrim are another possible combination.

They will be more cumbersome, but I'm sure that the Mahirim will be exceptionally fast, especially since they can be their own mount. Now, if other races can ride Mahirim in mount mode, that would be fantastic, both economically (you won't have to buy new mounts) and militarily (your mount can also fight like a mother). I suspect that the difference between Orks and Mahirim will be that Orks will have more ranged weaponry and more armor, while Mahirim will become more deadly primarily through skill progression, so they lose very little when they die and can be at peak fighting condition without spending too much money.

I think the mahrim will definitely be very fast in a straight line. I also "know" they will be exceptionally strong (I think some stats were released indicating that the base damage for a mahrim will be around 3 times that of a human!!!).
I also think you will be spot on with your Ork / Mahrim assessment.
