Day of Defeat Source
Day of Defeat Source is scheduled to release in 2 weeks. Anyone out there plan on giving it a try? I've seen some screens that look great. I've also heard their adding iron sights to the game as well. Could be loads of fun. The original was a blast but it's dated and showing it's age. New Source look and some slight changes should really turn it around and give it new life.

Re: Day of Defeat Source
If you have HL2 and purchased it over Steam with the Silver or Gold package then you'll get DoD:S free over Steam. Otherwise I think it will cost $20 in stores and probably the same over Steam.

Re: Day of Defeat Source
FYI: I just put in my preorder.
The deal, for those of you interested, is that the game will cost $19.99 via steam the day of release.
If you've preloaded, you can pre-order for 10% off ($17 and change).
Overall, that seems cheap to me.

Re: Day of Defeat Source
DoD:S looks interesting and from my understanding the preorder $17 and change package is a standalone game. Is that right or do I need HL2?
Also what is your guys opinion on the tactical play in DoD:S? Is it fast paced like CS:S? One of the reasons I don't play CS:S is that it seems too fast paced for me. If you guys say it'll be just like CS:S but with WWII weapons, I'll probably pass on DoD:S.

Re: Day of Defeat Source
Well, none of us has played DoD:S, but DoD was a bit slower than CS, although quite a bit faster than, say, GhostRecon. The game is a respawn game, like BF2, so it's not quite as frustrating if you die ten seconds after the round starts, 'cause you'll just respawn 15 seconds later.

Hmm, I said "like BF2" a few times, didn't I? Maybe there's something to that...Become a supporting member!

Re: Day of Defeat Source
The similarities are many....I think that DoD is attractive simply because it will run on systems that already run CS:S and HL2...whereas BF2 can be a resource hog. So the players that cannot, or will not, upgrade to play BF2 will have an alternative title to play.

The price is attractive as well.

Re: Day of Defeat Source
I wouldn't say it's like CS:S, but DoD is a fast-paced game. On our servers, CS is slower than on pubs because you don't have people running all over the map and playing like team deathmatch, people cover each other's backs and call out enemy positions. That's why 7-minute rounds are reasonable. The same style of play will have a similar slowing effect in DoD, especially if teams work together to use machine guns tactically.

It's more quick aim, reactionary tactics and situational awareness than troop movements, formations and larger strategy.
