For me, DoD was huge! It was my "first love" if you will. But that was years ago. I really wasn't expecting anything different from the original, so I wasn't disapointed that nothing major has been changed. With that being said, I still think it's got potential! I've been waiting for the TG dedicated server, as I think that "TG gameplay" will make the biggest difference for me! Playing any game, on any public server, after i've gotten used to playing on TG for so long, is a waste of my time IMHO! The frustration with the lack of teamplay drives me crazy! I'll join up and say...
sup fellas... ... ... NOTHING! Noone uses VOIP, and noone uses teamwork! So, I guess what my point is, is that TG is my deciding factor in whether or not I play this often! I really hope so...

Well, Brennus, now that our server is up, I hope to see you on it!

Re: Thoughts so far?
Just tried it out for the first time last night and for 20 bucks it's alright. My biggest gripe is infantry movement - it's waaaaaaaaay too fast for my tastes. I don't remember DoD being that spastic with infantry speed but it's been awhile since I last played it so my memory may be off a bit.

Re: Thoughts so far?
Yeah the speed is there, but take the game you played and slow it down by 3 times. Then that speed becomes really useful.
Played TG style it will be much slower i imagine. |

Re: Thoughts so far?
I was on the TG server this around 12:00pm PST, Vulcan was there and a couple of others. It seems like a good game but the maps seem so tight and small. (insert dirty thought) anyways, I prefer the larger maps of BF2 and OFP.

Re: Thoughts so far?
Well to report some things i figured out. You can indeed mount the machine gun on physics objects! So that makes for great possibilities.
The mapping for source is actually more expansive than you may think. It's just a matter of building it and making it work. To give you an idea, The largest map in there right now is about 1/10th the possible size you could make a map for Source. |

The name of that map was Jagd - my all-time fave. It was usually British vs. Germans, with the Germans needing to destroy 2 tanks at the British base, and the Brits needing to recover documents from the glider at the German base. What I found was that the servers that would play that map tended to have admins that didn't like smacktards, and thus the games on those servers were good all-around - and often insanely good on Jagd. Sadly these servers were few and far between. I'm not getting a good vibe from DoD:Source, though. Something feels a bit off about it, although I've only played on pubs. It MIGHT work well on TG though - especially if they do Jagd and some of the other levels that didn't play like team deathmatch. It's certainly not winning me over from BF2 at all at this point - and about all I played online for quite awhile before BF2 came out was DoD 1.3 . NCman |
