Pretty good overall. Graphics are nice, sounds nice. When more gameplay modes and maps are released it will be alot better I think. Still not much different from the original other than sounds and graphics. I hope they can change this.
My biggest gripe so far is I'm really disappointed in the implementation of iron sights. You get them on only the rifles and they feel clunky as hell. Not only is it too slow to sight up but once you are sighted in you can't move (well, so slow you can't notice that you're moving). I understand not being able to sprint while in sight but some walking wouldn't hurt would it?
MOH:PA, a turd by itself, had similar problems. Makes having iron sights pointless.
I wasn't overly impressed. But that's more to due with my personal preference in games than any problem with the game itself.
For me, DoD Source performed great. Nice and smooth, pretty graphics and good sound effects. The small maps, rapid gameplay, and preference towards twitching speed is what drives my overall opinion.
It does look to be an excellent game for those that like this style of game though!
Diplomacy is the art of saying "good doggie" while looking for a bigger stick.
There were a couple of maps and game modes that were definitely more tactically oriented in the original that, if implemented, will make this game great.
I can't remember the name of the map but it had a downed plane that the allies had to retrieve documents from. Seems like the axis had an objective to destroy armor on it as well and it made for some great offensive and defensive maneuvering.
I'm so used to BF2 that it is definitely a major pace change. Having said that, I played on a couple of regular servers while waiting for the TG server to be available and found it fun enough I'd like to try it on a TG server. For some odd reason I was doing just stellar as a sniper.
I like it so far. I agree with the comment about the iron sights - they just aren't "right." Hopefully this will get fixed. But it's as fun as it ever was, and I hope it lives a long productive life here at TG!
They did a good job capturing the feel of DoD just like they did with CS and CS:S.
The iron sights seem to be only useful in limited circumstances when you need to act like a sniper. The rifle grenades on the other hand work great and are a nice enhancement.
okay newbie question..is DOD source standalone or do i need to buy HL2.....cause if its stand alone i may purchase it, but if i need half life 2 not a chance....

Sorry troop, it requires the whole thing....that is half life 2 silver or better, or the retail version + day of defeat.
That said, if you haven't played HL2, you are missing out. There are some truly memorable sequences.
And the whole package comes with CounterStrike Source. Whatever your preconceptions are of the game, drop them, and play it here.
I thought CS:S was dead to me before I came here. Now I'm an admin. The game is that good, when played the PCS way.
And, like UT2004, there are a plethora of mods: dystopia, substance, plan of attack, etc...all quality stuff.
i know its fun ive heard great stuff about it..i just dont have the funds right now to get it....if i get the silver package is it included or do i have to buy it seperatly?
i would love to play and have a couple of friends who would play as well....

Silver gets you DoD and Lost Shores. Gold gets you everything Valve has ever done.
I'll probably get DoD:S standalone since I have no real interest in their other games and there are so many other games coming out soon that my gaming budget is strained.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
It has been almost 6 months now and I am still waiting for the second peer-review report to come in for my next book (this one is on the future of television).
Things usually unfold faster than...
