Voip
Is it me or does DOD:S have really crappy voice comms? I guess BF2 has really spoiled me when it comes to quality voice comms.

Re: Voip
For whatever reason, Source Multiplayer uses the Miles codec, which is a lot crappier than the Speex codec (which HL1-based games have the option of using).

Re: Voip
Valve decided it wasn't important enough to give you better codec for voice or they just sold out to miles?
It sucks but it can sound better if everyone took time to tweak their voice settings.

Re: Voip
Within any source game you have voice tab, you can test your mic there and see it's bar of how loud your voice is. Most people have it to low or high and it causes garbled sounds.
I imagine that some people have sound card conflicts, so may try tweaking settings in your sound drivers if the in game isn't giving you good quality. I've noticed sometimes the gain in a sound card can be to much or to little, so it needs to be reduced or increased depending on the in game performance. Mic booster is one that can really screw things up.

Re: Voip
Better, perhaps, but still not much of an improvement in voice quality.

It's not like your talking over the phone or anything, but personally i like the sound of voices because it sounds more radio and realistic to me. If the mic is setup correctly and it's good quality i can make them out perfectly.
