Is it just me or...
Is it just me or does the game seem so much more disorganized without a leader?

Of course it does. I'm just spoiled from the BF2 Commander-Squad structure which can work really really well with the TG mindset. Playing DOD:S, I sometimes find myself wanting to be a Squad Leader and start barking out orders.
"JoeSchmoe, I need you to switch classes to a machine gunner!"
"Rox0r, you're sniping. Get up in that window and provide some long range cover."
"You and You, be Assault and go around the alternate way through the building to try and get behind them."
Of course I don't do this, cause it's not like I really know what the hell I'm talking about. But, I would gladly follow orders from someone else.

Yeah, without a leader, it's a zergfest, just like CS:S. In Natural Selection and Counterstrike Source, we call those games Captians Games, and it really adds to the experience.

DoD is a lot more like the Kharaa (alien) team in Natural Selection. There's no specific leader, and a specific leader is not really needed. The players can make autonomous decisions for the good of the team. DoD provides plenty of information - hit tab you can see the classes, and when you change classes it shows you how many team members you have in that class.
I don't think you should expect someone to tell you to be MG. If you see an opening, and think you've got what it takes, step up to the plate. Tell your team you're going to provide cover as MG at X location and just do it. Your team might provide feedback (an MG would be more useful here, or sniper would be better for that position) that you should take in to account, but remember that your opinion counts too.
If you're worried about screwing up - Don't be! That's why there are video games, to provide you the opportunity to take charge. I mean, if you repeatedly mow down your teammates with that MG, maybe consider another class
but for the most part just take a shot and just worry about managing yourself to the best you can.
NS also has the amazing alien hud, where flanking manuvers can be communicated without words, but in DoD these can still be thought up by the players performing the manuevers.

Re: Is it just me or...
If you see me on the server I will be saying things like "we need an MG to lock down x" or "we have too many snipers" if I spot such a situation. If you spot them you can help your team by saying so. People may or may not listen. Usually someone does though. Unfortunately sometimes they don't have voice comm to say "I'll do it" and then we have three people do it.
It's a smaller scale game than BF2 and in the smaller scale battles of BF2, for instance taking a ridge and then a flag, a commander micromanaging your squad is just counterproductive. It would be nice to have smaller squads with squad leaders, though. You can achieve a lot of success in the game just by working with two other players.

i think if we had that in that server we would take care of alot of the problems that happend last night...bunch of dirty mouth kids came in and basicly ruined the server until it got"restarted"....
that sounds like a good idea trooper.

Was there an admin present? I never received a page. You guys gotta start using this function, our server is not for people to be abusing and your not going to help it's growth.
