After trying DoD:S TG server...

I have a few comments.

All seems well except for a lack of communication. I play mostly on a NS server for TG, the reason? It's the only one that satisfies my thirst for good teamwork.

I would like to make a couple suggestions to start conversation on them. I don't think these should absolutely be implemented, but they might be very fun.

1. No kill cam. I don't know why they ever put that in, it wasn't in 1.0 and it ruins the feel of the game. When you die the enemy should not be shown to you. This is of course my opinion, but I also think it makes the game more interesting.

2. No Little team mate flags. You know the ones floating above your head that tells your whole team you're friendly. Yeah, if you remove those accidental TK's go up, but players start to think more and deathmatch less.

If you haven't noticed I'm not big on deathmatch.

3. No Deathmessages. This is very controversial I'm sure, I use death messages as one of my main sources of what's going on and where. I have played on servers without this and the whole game changes.

I know all of these aren't the types of things alot of people like, but all of them encourage Teamwork, Communication, and strategy. Playing with any of these changes the game dynamic significantly. But I wanna hear everyone else's opinions and ideas too.

im going to have to agree with your on all your comments, i played last night, trying to use tactics and communication, just dint work. 20 players just running after the flags and not really moving or operating as a team just inst fun to those who like that style of play..

but i will say if you stop by on sunday night the game will be much better, the game club will be on the server and should help.

Re: After trying DoD:S TG server...

I like all three suggestions.

EDIT: On further searching it seems that none of these changes are are made possible by the game. If anyone finds information to the contrary, please let me know.

I think we could make the game more strategic by limiting some of the kits. That way you wouldn't be able to completely choke off the enemy with machine guns or snipers and capturing enemy equipment could be a strategy in itself.

I think we just need to have more TG players on the server at any one time. Having just a few TG players amongst a sea of fragmonkies does nothing to promote our style of play.

I'm jumping back on the server now!

Re: After trying DoD:S TG server...

I know at least the killcam can be removed with a plugin of some sort, they use it on "28th (infantry or something) Realism Server" I <3 Realism servers hence my suggestions. They attract a different breed of player.
The death messages I thought had a cvar or something but I'm no admin so *shrugs* but if someone could make a plugin to do it. Well I would swoon. That goes for the teammate flags too, though I think they should stay on the minimap.

I don't make any claims as to know how to do this, though I would be glad to start looking into it (I am in NO way a modder...me=nub).

I got to play an DoD (original) server that ran these changes and I found the game changed from a deathmatch to a war.

As to limiting the classes, I agree. Although, I think the classes restricted and the number of them should be different based on the map.

I'm in favor of teams using as many MGs as are useful. A team of all machine gunners and snipers would obviously be very weak. Defeating an entrenched MG is where the game gets most interesting and teamwork shines.

If there's only 2 machine guns then the team on defense also has to work together to keep their MGs from getting flanked and the attackers will still have to use teamwork to defeat a machine gun position. Both teams would have to work together to get their equipment to the right places instead of one player constantly switching to whatever kit they need and doing the job alone. It also rewards planning because a poor attack could end with the enemy team capturing your weapons, so a team could get all the machine guns that would be useful but they'd have to be careful to not get killed capturing them.

4. Remove the weapons after round-end. Running around killing the losers just seems in poor taste.

Hi, by the way. Great gaming last night and tonight, I might join TG just on the weight of this.

Re: After trying DoD:S TG server...

I found the realism mod that was mentioned. For now we'll let the players with the free trial enjoy the game as stock, but after that I'll put the custom maps back in rotation and I'd like to try it out the mod.

That takes care of #1 and also includes some slower run speeds. #2 (teammate flags) and #3 (death messages) I still haven't found a way to do that.

As for Marconi's #4 I think that's a matter of personal taste. I'll make a poll.

I think I'm going to have to Buy DoD, The sense of community here in the DoD seems just as strong.

Glad to see you like it, Tinker!

I'm going to make an effort to play more DoD on the weekends, too. I had a LOT of fun this weekend!

Agreed. I'd like to see as few restrictions as possible on the DoD server. This isn't CSS, so lets give things a chance to work out without too much in the way of GO / admin intervention.

Re: After trying DoD:S TG server...

I enjoyed playing on the TG DoD servers last night. It was fun, but in my short time playing I will at least agree about the kill counter in the upper right-hand corner, it actually obstructed my view quite a few times because of the number of kills and captures going on it obstructed half of my screen ><;;
