[Announcement] Server Reserved Slots

The TacticalGamer DoD:S server uses a reserved slots system which grants priority access to the game. Players with reserved slot access can join the server even when it is full.

If you have access to the Tactical Gamer Member Forums, your reserved access on the DoD server is automated and dependent only on your having a valid SteamID listed in your Forum Profile in the form STEAM_X:X:XXXXX.

If you are not yet a Tactical Gamer Supporting Member, becoming one is your first step to enjoying a reserved slot on the servers.

Once you're a supporting member, make sure you have a valid SteamID listed in your Forum Profile. Once the SteamID is in your forum profile, you need only allow the server to change maps once (or maybe twice, in rare cases) for your reserved slot to automatically take effect, at which point you can begin enjoying one of the many benefits of Tactical Gamer Supporting Members.

When the server is full, players with reserved slots cannot use Steam's server browser to join the server, as the Steam server browser will not allow you to even attempt to join a server that it sees as full. To use a reserved slot to join the full server, you must first launch Day of Defeat: Source, then open the console, and then issue the following command:

connect dod.tacticalgamer.com

This will cause you to force a connection attempt, at which point the server will authenticate your SteamID as reserved and authorize you to join the full server.

Some may see this as laborious when we could just always leave an extra, unused slot on the server at all times, thus allowing members to simply join and not have to go to this trouble. However, with the configuration above, our friends without reserved slots are able to use the feature of many server browsers (including Steam's) to constantly monitor a full server and attempt to join only when a slot becomes available. Therefore, this configuration makes the server most accessible to the greatest number of players, those both with and without reservation.

Many third-party server browsers allow you to force a connection attempt to a full server.
