[SOP] All Players: Dealing with Problem Players

All players on the server have the ability to deal with problem players.

The primary way to deal with problem players is to contact an admin to handle the situation. Contact information of individual admins is available here. If admins are present in the game and you wish to make them aware of a problem, you can send them a private message using the console command ma_chat followed by the message you want the admins to read. The third option is to page an admin. You can do this by typing an in-game chat "say" message starting with the keyphrase page_admin followed by the message you want the admins to receive. The page_admin utility is currently being worked on. Until this effort is complete it will not be 100% effective.

When contacting an admin, please be clear in your message. Give the name of the problem player and offer a brief description of the problem. Do not tell the admin what action you think he should take. Do not abuse this privilege. Do use it when you need it, but don't "cry wolf".

The server also uses a mechanism to allow players to handle problem players who cause grief by killing their teammates. If you are team-killed you will be presented with a menu of two options: forgive the player or slay the player. At this point you must decide if you think the team-kill was on purspose or an accident. If you are sure it was on purpose then slay the player who team-killed you. If you are not sure it was on purpose then use the forgive option.

Here are some indications that the team-kill may have been on purpose:
  • You were killed soon after spawning
  • The player is being disruptive and/or using abusive, inaprropriate language
  • The player has killed many teammates already
We all make mistakes from time to time. We also want to keep our server friendly to new players. With this in mind please do not use the punishment option when it is not necessary. Do not punish just because you think a player is careless or unskilled. The admin staff may remove players who consistently abuse the team-kill system.

After a certain number of players punish a team-killer, he will be banned from the server for a certain amount of time. The exact numbers determining the ban are not posted here for two reasons. First, these values will be tweaked from time to time based on player feedback. Second, we don't want determined griefers to know exactly how much they can get away with.

By dealing with problem players in these ways you can help make the server better for everyone. Your efforts are much appreciated.
