Discussion: Simulation / DayZ - Thoughts on Disconnecting? - What is everyone's opinion on disconnecting to avoid agro zombies or inevitable death? Sounds really
I dunno if I agree with that Sarge. I for one fight till the end. No dcing for me. We've all be on the other side of this situation and been right ticked off because of it.
Primer forbids exploiting the game engine for our advantages. I suggest the following rules be added to our TG DayZ ruleset for TX9.
1. Reconnecting to refill ammo. It's a known glitch that a partially empty magazine will be filled after reconnecting. We shouldn't be taking advantage of this by reconnecting to a server.
2. Disconnecting to remove zombies from your AO, or to avoid dying. Again - exploiting the engine. If you're engaged, then you're engaged. Get to safety, rely on friends. Own up and take responsibility for your mistakes - that kind of defines maturity. Disconnecting to avoid problems is immature, imo.
3. Item duplication. It's possible to duplicate items due to glitched inventories - I've seen it myself. We shouldn't take advantage of this.
The game is in alpha, so all of us already have and will encounter glitches. The distinction is that we shouldn't intentionally use these glitches to our advantage. We're TG and we're above that.

1.) As of 1.5.2, magazines with less than 50% remaining have a chance to be discarded on logout, I do agree it's not something that should be done, but it isn't something that happens without penalty. Additionally, logging out then immediately logging back in can trigger an unconscious state for a few minutes, similar to passing out from blood loss, but for a much longer period of time.
2.) I do not subscribe to the school of thought that a glitched zombie aggro horde is a horde that I have to deal with. If I have 0 Sight/ 0 Audio markers, am 15m deep into a building, and a zombie aggros due to a glitch, I'm not going to stay and deal with a horde. I'll play fair when I really did aggro one, but I'm not going to cut Day Z any slack while I'm still occasionally flung to 999/180 and have to swim back if I want to play without waiting a week for a position reset.

100% agreed, I know of people doing this for ammo etc, its exploiting and it shouldn't be happening period.
The way magazines work is that only your current magazine will be remembered all other ones will be assumed to be full. Its an unavoidable mechanic/limitation of the Dayz engine.
There are obvious cases of exploit but there are also cases where it just is a convenient plus to logging out.
I can't believe people are logging for any other reason than when it's absolutely necessary. Am I the only one that literally takes 10-15 minutes to be in game once I hit connect? When I die I'm more pissed at having to stare at the loading screen for so long than for the gear I've lost.
It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:
