Tonight we will be migrating over to our new DayZ server.
The new server is in our east coast datacenter in Washington, DC. This should reduce pings for our european members while still providing good pings for all NA members. The IP address of the server WILL be changing.
Unfortunately; due to the distributed nature of DayZ and the requirement of being connected back to a main DayZ database/instance server, we can not do a seamless cutover from one server to another.
At approximately 3:30PM EST today, I will be giving the DayZ support team the go-ahead to REMOVE the whitelist for our existing server and ADD our new server IP. Our instance ID# will not be changing and nothing should change from a loot/asset/character perspective, although anything is possible considering this is Alpha code we're working with. During this time I will also be upgrading the DayZ ArmA2 instance to the latest beta.
As soon as the DayZ team completes their side of the migration, we will spin down the old DayZ server and spin up the new one.
US 137 server information sticky will be updated with a new GameTracker banner, IP address, and any other relevant information as soon as the migration is completed and TESTED.

Thanks Apophis. My character is napping now and when he awakes he will be looking to be in the same place with all the same gear, of course he is dreaming all this with fingers crossed.

Our play grounds and staches of raw meet are still intact, right?
Yup!! Sorry for not mentioning that. I logged in to the server and verified that my tents were still there and had the appropriate goodies still inside, so the move to a new server did not have an impact on saved player loot. I do not have access to a vehicle; so I was not able to verify if those made the transition as well, but tents & their contents did!

They did.
But the server appears to be in Dallas instead Washington, which is further away from me than Houston.
Yet the data goes through 13 hops to get there instead of the 17 it took to get to the old one.
What kind of networking black magic is this?

Whatever data source you're using likely has incorrect data. The server is absolutely in the Washington, DC datacenter.

Loading times are many times longer on this server. The ping is a bit lower but the ping had never bothered me anyway, all the zombie data is stored locally and it seems that even if you are really laggy if you hit something in your screen it'll be sent to the server and considered a valid hit.
Bravo Microsoft, you have now surpassed EA in poor decisions and once and for all seized the crown for the worst 'Reveal' ever. That EA were standing there on the stage with you when you did it was...

It is not often that I encounter across myself when researching a topic. I found the following in a recent article on the uses of ethnography in virtual environments:

Took a gamble and got a refurbished 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1 off of NewEgg for the low, low price of $30. Had some trouble getting the drive to be recognized by Windows or by my BIOS. Had to use a jumper...
