Unhappy Speed D&D

Last night I adventured with a few different groups in an effort to bring my main and my alts past the "get throught the harbor gates" quests...

I'm a vetran (MM)ORPG player; MUDS, MUSH's, BBS, EQ, WoW, and many others. I know from experience that the vast majority of MMORPG players play to get to the level cap as fast as possible and then run through the high end content to expand laterally and beat other groups to "big kills" and get the "best loot." It's clichéd, but no less true.

In some games, you could alienate yourself from these players because you were not forced by design to play with them (DDO is not solo friendly—nor should it be). You can join guilds of like minded players to insulate your play style and harbor a more focused and friendly type of playing. This is where groups like TG come in (thank God for us, eh?). When you play in a guild like ours you very rarely have to put up with outsiders, who are unaccountable for their conduct. I would NEVER play a MMO (hell, any online game) again without a group of friends or a community that supported the style of play that we have at TG.

And gang, that was never more apparent than last night. This post in the D&D forums sums up what I’ve seen from a majority of this community so far:

I've played PNP D&D on and off since middle school and always enjoyed playing when I got the chance. I like the pacing and the laid back social attitude of the game. The table-talk and the friendly harassment. The immersion in a fantasy setting and fun of exploring new settings and adventures.

Like the poster, the groups I was in wanted through the dungeon as fast as possible. Their communication was restricted to “heal me” and “I want that potion” or “hurry up” and “you sound like a ***.” Needless to say, it sucked. I was really feeling the pain of not being in a TG group.

I haven’t played with you guys in any “real” quests and I look forward to when I can. But man-alive, I don’t think I could play this game without you.

Re: Speed D&D

Excellent post rincewind!!!!!! I couldn't agree with you more. the group of guys we have on here at TG is deffinetly top notch, and look foward to playing more with them in the near future, I would add more to your statement , but i believe you've said it all ,, so on that note i'd like to try to start up an unoffical night or 2 of adventuring outside the thursday and sunday,, but thats for a different thread.

Talking Re: Speed D&D

Here! Here!

TG really has made a tremendous difference for me playing online. It's nice playing with a group that shares a similiar style of play, regardless of the game. I've been playing BF2 on TG for quite some time and have had a blast. The TG party I was in Sunday on D + D had that BF2 feel, coordinating movements, giving gaming tips and working together for a common goal.

In my opinion the games are only as good as the people playing them. Imagine having to play BF2 on the public servers! Team play is what makes BF2 it a great game, like D + D Online.
