"Update Initialization Error"

Well I went ahead and tried to get DandD for the 2nd time, download install, and get the same error as before when I tried that open beta while back,

"Update Initialization Error" Just closes the client before anything happens. What a peice of junk, no firewall even turned on.

hmm full error I get,

"Update Initialization Error
The update process could not be initialized.

System.Exception: The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropriate access. (0xC0000005)"

Hi Undead. I am looking into this, but if anyone else has any ideas in the meantime, its all yours.

Sounds like it could be some left over files or registry entries. Since you had the beta, i would look for anything in the temp files or delete the entire DDO folder and try reinstalling.

Also make sure you have .NET 1.1 installed with the latest hot fixes (or 2.0 for that matter). Even if you do, you might try removing and then reinstalling them.

I usually always clear folders left over from games I've uninstalled, I believe I have net 1.1 installed, but I'll check out 2.0 for sure see if that helps.

sidenote, Ive got registry cleaners, I don't believe any registry files were left over from the beta.

Well reg cleaners can be .. a problem.. but.. you may try reinstalling .net 1.1 + patches or 2.0 before we get any further.

Still a no go, I installed net 2.0,

I actually read on the website that, that error could be virus's on your computer, so I started in safe mode, ran and scan for virus's fixed that all up. Still same error.

Try installing the game and manually patching from fileplanet or turbine, etc. Perhaps the patch will clear it up. Seems like the update interface is wonky for ya... hence, it wont initialize. If I remember the patch notes, this may have been addressed. There were errors addressed, but not sure if it was this one.

Hmm, I don't see where to just download the game patches themselves. Any links to direct downloads?

Edit, I found a thread on their forums about this, but no answers, besides them insisting it means you have malware/spyware/adaware/virus's on your computer,

I have scanned with,

AVG 7.1
Bitdefender 9

NoAdware
Spybot S&D
Ad-Adware SE

Same results with the game client afterwards, apparently I can't register on their forums unless I have an account, and I didn't want to start my 7day free trial until I could get the damn game patching first.

I may have figured it out, I created a new windows account with admin privs, and the launcher worked fine, so the conclusion here is that I may have disabled a certain service in windows that doesn't allow the game to patch or whatever correctly, problem is I have no idea which service that is. Guess ill take a screen to compare.

Actually - Yes.. that was your problem. It was also the ONE thing I left on my post for you to check.. here is what I went from -

Well I just checked and compared all services, they match excactly in the new account created and my account, thing is, my main account has admin privs. So it looks like I'm gonna have to do everything in the new account just for this game.

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. Need to find out from Turbine exactly which permission causes the dropout.. then tweak the permissions to accomdate it. There are plenty of permissions that are hidden by default.

Are you on a business computer or something?

no, I'm on my own personal computer. Seems like this has been to much trouble, I'll settle for playing it on the other account no big deal with fast user switching.
