Max player count now 16
I lowered the player count to 16. My motivation is to see how it will effect the teamwork on the server. I am interested in moving away from 20 player frag fests to a more intimate and tactical style of play. Before anyone freaks out, this is only temporary to see how it will effect game play. A final decision on the player count will be made after sufficient feedback has been received.
My expectation is that tighter teamwork will be required. I also expect that those who ignore considerations of the team will stick out like a sore thumb. When they do so, they will be educated on our teamwork requirements and removed if necessary.
So, let me know how the games go.

Awesome! I think you hit that dead on Kormendi... I also think this greatly help an area that is unfortunately, greatly lacking on the Dystopia Server.

Re: Max player count now 16
When it was set to 20 did you only see 19?
I have seen it fill to 16... the reserved slots are actually slots 17-20 which are hidden

Re: Max player count now 16
There are different ways to set up mani. The way we have it set up is there are 20 slots on the server, 16 of which are visible. The 4 hidden slots are used for reservation.
When the server is full (16 players) and someone forces a connect, they enter the server occupying one of the 4 reserved slots. It is at this point where the reservation logic kicks in. Depending on if the player is eligible for a reserved slot or not, either the joining player is kicked or the player with the shortest connection time is kicked.
The reason for the hidden slots is so those who are not aware of the slot reservation will not be confused as to why they cannot join the server when its not full. Additionally we use more than 1 hidden slot because there is the possibility that a joining SM might block others joining at the same time. The slot reservation process takes a few seconds, so it is likely that a conflict may occur.

Saturday night, I had over six regulars waiting in line to join the full Natural Selection server. Six people tried to join all at the same time, when a single slot opened up.

Sometimes, just sometimes, you need more hidden slots than you'd think necessary.Steam Community? Add me. | Join #tacticalgamer | Search Results Legend | New Posts Forum Filter | Postbox Toggle | Live Thread Review | One Line Results | Free Remote, Encrypted Backup
Darkilla: In short, NS is pretty much really fast chess. With guns. Apophis: I haven't seen anyone say that SM's are better than non-SMs. Nordbomber: This is THE first server I've seen where either side can comeback from out of seemingly nowhere with the right teamwork. en4rcment: I have NEVER experienced the type of gameplay that I have found here.
