On paper the TacticalGamer concept is a good one, who doesn't want to play with like-minded, team-oriented players? However, this idea is completely at odds with the idea of a public server. I look through your forums and see everyone saying "we need to step up the level of play so we're better than a random pub." The trouble is, to most people you ARE just another random pub. The people who are into organized play outside of a clan aren't going to Tacticalgamer, they're going to #pugtopia.

Here's the solution I propose. Make TG a private server, with the password easily obtainable by signing up for the TG forums and providing your Steam ID. This will weed out all the pub noobs and ensure that the only people there are the ones who are into playing Dystopia in an organized manner. This will lessen the need for heavy-handed administration to ensure teamplay.
I thought it might be a good idea to share this with you all. This was the result of a series of replies to the thread "Tactical Gamer Looking to Scrim" which can be found at http://dystopia-game.com/forum/viewt...er=asc&start=0

This thread had me thinking. I recall back before I joined TG being threaten to be banned from the server by an admin who had banned three others already. This wasn't one of the main admins, or any of the admins I have worked with recently, and I don't recall his name either. At the time, I played exactly how I play now. I worked as a team player, I helped my team, I didn't needlessly swear or attempt to go around the swear filter. Instead, this was an admin having a bad day or something and he was taking it out on anyone who he felt was insulting to him in any way. It happened on at least 2 seperate occasions, at least the second time occuring without me being a target.

Evidently, as the thread on the Dys Forums has pointed out, this has still happened. Many of the top Dys players have a dislike of our server and not just for our choice in mature gaming.

Analogy's post has me thinking in that regard. He's right as he says to most players we ARE just another pub. Most players who might be good players and possibly great members of TG with alittle guidance don't actually have to read the rules to play on the server. But his idea would make them work alittle bit towards that goal. Yes, I know it would decrease the server's population, but at the same time it would mean everyone had to look at the forums here first before joining.

I wanted to present this to the community and ask how you feel about it. We've got a bad rep with the dys community, do we care enough about the game to try and fix it? I'm heavily involved in that community, prehapes more active there than I am here. I care about the developement of that game and community. With how much we try to invest into the game, will TG invest into that community too or are we just an off shot of it that stands alone?

Here I stand between worlds, hoping to close the rift that has been torn open.

Im not exactly sure that the forums here are a place to bring this up. Yeah we do have tough admins but thats what makes TG great, you play by the rules you will have more fun then any place else. And these people are complaining cause they cant run and gun on the server. Play the objective and all will be fine. Im not sure how much of a "bad rap" we have when i look at the server player count at nights lately its been full.

Re: From the Dys Forums:

The stigma about TwinCannon's ban will be with the TG Dystopia server for quite some time. I personally don't care about it anymore.

Considering the primarily low median age for Dystopia (at least from when I took over), there's going to be a whole sect of that group who will fight against being told how to play the game.

And personally, I don't know this Analogy player, but just judging from his attitude on the Dystopia forum, he's not TG material. Just read the thread: they want to rage against TG and nothing is going to stop that.

On another note, it wasn't within DOAs authority to try and get a TG sponsored scrim together. Anyways, I'm going to lock the thread because it's only going to go downhill. But trust me, there's plans in the works to correct at least a few of the issues brought up here.
