Sound troubles

Hey, I'm just starting out in dystopia (from NS) and am running into some problems hearing most people's mics. Some people I am able to hear, but the rest is hopelessly garbled, I can't even tell what language they're speaking. It's not any kind of hardware problem, as I can hear voice perfectly fine in NS. Does anyone have any ideas about how I can fix this, or at least what might be causing the problem? Different voice codecs in dystopia or anything? Hoping to get this fixed before I try playing during peak hours again.

Re: Sound troubles

You might try updating your sound drivers. It's a long shot, but it's the best thing I can think of off-hand.

Re: Sound troubles

Its most likely something that you need to get used to.

NS (and other HL1 based games) are able to use the higher quality speex codec. This is an option unavailable in Source based games.

I have investigated ways to increase the voice quality on the server with no success.

Given the current setup, the problem lies in the origin. The key to coherent voice in Source is a quality microphone and sufficient transmit volume. Quiet people don't come through well.

Re: Sound troubles

Yeah, I was trying to hack speek into source by using .res files to force it onto the client, but the problem is that speex refuses to support source

This is why ventrilo exists!
