They need to allow server operators choose their own codec. That way you can have a high powered high quality codec if you think people can take the data feed, or go with low quality if you don't want to spark voice chatter.

Well if there going to break something. They will fix the voice chatting, but make sure we cant use it.

Probably a headset/microphone company gave them a "donation" so it would help spark mic/headset sales, thus increasing profits despite the "donation." As is, I know a few players who won't buy headsets because the valve codex is poor.

I can think of many more reasons to have a headset other than the valve codec. If some of the people you know base their purchases on the actions of valve, I feel for them... lol.
