Can I call an admin to the server when nobody is playing?
Pokerface has authored a solution which allows players in the game to ask admins who aren't in the game to come to the server. It allows regulars to send messages to remote admins instantly and as they play.
To use it, you send "page_admin" using the "say" command and then follow in the rest of what you say with what you want remote admins to see. Everything you say in your message following "page_admin" is sent to the Dystopia admins who are online and available.
The keyword is "page_admin". So, to call admins to the server, simply "say": "page_admin JoeyTheTKer is rushing and he won't stop." Admins will get the message about Joey and come deal with him swiftly.
Do not tell an admin how to solve a problem. Tell an admin what the problem is and let him solve it as he sees fit.
No, it won't work if you say this to your team. You must say it to everyone.
When you use this, be clear in your message. Offer a brief reason why you need an admin.
Like any other privilege we go out of our way to give players, there will be consequences if this is abused. Do not abuse this privilege. Use it when you need it, but don't "cry wolf". We wouldn't release if we didn't want people using it, but we don't want it abused.
The same process is now listening to CSS1, CSS2, DoD:S, NS and the Dystopia servers.
As a known bug/"feature", the script is deaf while processing a page, so if CSS1 pages followed immediately by CSS2, CSS2 won't be processed at all. Please note that, other than the arrival of an admin, there is no feedback indicating the success of a page, so be patient and try again in a few minutes if the problem persists.
Finally, there is a throttle on the pager. Once a page has been sent, another can't be sent until one of three things happens.
1) 15 minutes passes.
2) The map changes.
3) Someone says "thank_admin <message here>".Last edited by kormendi; 01-30-2006 at 12:39 PM.
