Post Dystopia Newbie Guide: Tweaking Dystopia Options + Controls

This thread's purpose to give a Dystopia Newbie instruction in configuring the game's Options and Controls.
-----
Go to the options menu, located in the lower left corner of the main menu.

Firstly we need to alter some major things in the "Keyboard" Tab.
---Keyboard Tab---
See the "Advanced" button? Click on that and check the two boxes that are prompted to you. One is "Fast Weapon Switch" (you likey likey) and the other is "Enable Developer's Console" (you will learn to likey likey)

Now let's mosey on down that nice little list of keybinds you have there to the "Dystopia Keys" submenu. Dystopia is different from the majority of source games because it features implants that can be crossed not only with classes but with weapons as well. It is also important to be able to activate/deactivate them at moments notice in order to conserve energy either while in combat or sneaking past enemy lines.

Thus we will want to remap our Dystopia Keys, mapped currently at F1-F5, to something a little easier for us to hit when we are in the heat of battle. So change them up as follows.

Implant 1: B
Implant 2: C
Implant 3: V
Implant 4: Z
Implant 5: X
This will help you tremendously by placing your implant buttons right next to your fingers.

Now lets go over to the "Communication" submenu. I would advise you to alter your voice communication key to ALT, as it is in easy reach of your left thumb. I would also encourage you to reposition your team radio message to the number 5.

Scroll up to the "Combat" submenu. Now most of these settings I'm going to offer here are even more personal, and you may or may not find them suited to your tastes, but I'm including them anyway.
Primary Weapon: G
Hand Grenade: F
Melee Weapon: TAB
Secondary Weapon: 2 (you may wonder why I chose not to change this, personally it's because 2 was the pistol in Natural Selection, and I'm addicted to hitting that key. It's also right above W, so you won't get it confused with other weapons now if you panic smash that whole region)

Also, I've always had a tremendous problem with scrolling the wrong direction when going through my weapons in a cyclical order. So personally, I switched "Previous Weapon" and "Next Weapon"

---Mouse Tab---
I've never had any problem with the default sensitivity of 5, if you want to change it be my guest. I feel that it is appropriate though.

---Multiplayer Tab---
Firstly change your name to something that is extremely witty and cool (like Zephyr, for example) and place -new- on the end of it. This will help you much more than you think, it's much better than -N00b13- or -n00b- as it will get you honest attention and help, as well as more initially friendly contact. You are going to suck in the first couple of games you play, don't even go in thinking that you are somewhat okay. It's for your own good.

Set your crosshair to the smallest one available. I use a red coloration personally, though green, magenta, and yellow are popular I hear. Those three have the least conflicts with actual in-game objects. For the love of god dont choose blue or black though, too many conflicts to deal with.

Re: Dystopia Newbie Guide: Tweaking Dystopia Options + Controls

I've been playing awhile so I should know this, but I don't: is there anyway to bind specific implants to certain keys rather than implant #s? I don't really care if my cyberdeck or legbooster implant is easily accessible (since you can use e) but I'd die for a more controlled transition with thermal or SWT.

Yes, there is a way to do it... I don't bind mine that way though so try to ask around and find someone that binds them seperately that way... I believe though something like bind "k" "thermal" will work...

Re: Dystopia Newbie Guide: Tweaking Dystopia Options + Controls

bind <key> "implant <implant name>"

Here's the list of implant names:

cyberdeck
tacscanner
thermalvision
swt
cortexbomb
stealth
soundsuppression
mediplant
legboosters

For example, to assign thermal vision to the 'k' key, you would type the following in console or your config file.

bind k "implant thermalvision"

You can also assign multiple implants to a single key. Cyberdeck and Tacscan can not be used at the same time, so one might want to do the following.

bind l "implant cyberdeck;implant tacscanner"

Re: Dystopia Newbie Guide: Tweaking Dystopia Options + Controls

I personally am fine with most of the F1-F3 commands as due to the layout of my keyboard they are relatively close and I have learned to use them as such. But it is hard for such things that you need rapidly like thermal vision. Thanks to your guy's help I think I'll give this a try:

bind f "implant thermalvision"

I mean it's not like you have a flashlight anyways right? It's just what you need to stop those pesky cloakers
