Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
I couldn't disagree more. You're saying that since everyone's focusing on a single objective in QW, your options are limited, but the same is true for TF2 - everyone needs to get on a point. The number of ways you can complete or defend an objective in QW dwarfs TF2. There's so much more to it. You don't need half your team as the objective-completer class. You only need 1 person to complete the objectives, the rest of the team is support. If you need half your team as a covops to complete a hack objective, you're doing it wrong. The hard part isn't completing the objectives themselves, it's being able to control the area and suppress the defenders.
Saying that TF2 has more freedom than Quake Wars is just asinine.
I havn't been playing much Quake Wars the past few days because I've been busy playing through the Portal challenges and Episode 2, but in a day or two I'll probably never touch them again, at least not until we get some good portal custom maps.
LiquidNazgul, download the Quake Wars demo. It's the unrestricted game with a single map, and will show you exactly what Quake Wars is like. There's no TF2 demo so you won't be able to compare it, but play the QW demo for a week (pretty steep learning curve, especially compared to TF2) and you'll know if you like it or not. They're both fantastic games, and I bought both and play both regularly, but I prefer QW and will probably play it more in the long run. Too bad you can't buy both right now.Last edited by Curlydave; 10-16-2007 at 03:24 PM.

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
People really need to hop off of TF2. At the end of the day it's just TFC with a new coat of paint.
I say it depends on what you want. A well rounded package with strong SP and a good MP portion or a strong MP and a weak SP. If you are more of an MP gamer I say get Quake Wars first if you are a fan of the HL2 story line get the Orange box.
Either way get both TF2 is solid, Portal is solid, the HL2 saga is solid, and Quake Wars is solid.RX-78-2 Gundam EFSF Protoype Close Combat Mobile Suit Armor: Luna Titanium Armament: 2x Beam Sabers, 2x 60mm Head vulcan guns 380mm Hyper bazooka, Beam Rifle, Beam Javelin, Hyper Hammer, Gundam Hammer, shield

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
Hey Zoopy has opinion just as Sc1ence has his.
Sc1ence's evaluation was probably the fairest evaluation. TF2 has the most bang for your buck. If you haven't played TFC then you'll probably enjoy TF2 and embrace it as a complete new game. If you were a fan of the original then you might enjoy TF2 extremely.
If you want to be playing by yourself, easily it's the orange box. Since you're planning to get both of them, I'd personally go with the Orange box first.
Can't you play the ET:QW Demo still? I believe theirs a HL2 demo too. Make your decision based on that, I'd say.

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
Get both orange box, then QW.
Then start saving for UT3
When you can't run, you walk. When you can't walk, you crawl and when you can't do that, you get someone to carry you.

^^^^Throw in Crysis along with UT3 and I think we have a winner.

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
I downloaded the QW demo a long time ago, and I am indeed happy with it. However the restriction to one map bothers me and the graphics on the surroundings aren't all that great---why don't they actually use in-game clouds instead of just pasting a photo of a sky inside of it, unmoving? True, many games do that but for some reason QW bothers me most.
Still, QW is like Quake 4 and Battlefield 2 combined, with 60% of it Quake 4 and 40% Battlefield 2.This is where a signature goes. Also, [INSERT WITTY REMARK HERE.]

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
I was definetly not impressed with TF2 its just to chaotic and team work that people talk about was not that great. I guess you have player to player team work but not the great squad team work of BF2. I do like what they did with classes and game goals its just not my bag of tea.

So my recommendation. Get none, just wait 3 more weeks for the games below and play some old games while you wait.
My current hope for good MP is COD4 and Crysis + Obsidian Edge mod.

Hey Red, does that mean you don't want your copy of TF2? I'll take it off your hands, if so.

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
Maybe I'm not giving TF2 a fair shake, but it just doesn't seem right to me to use the phrase "tactical depth" in the same sentence as a game that is: Cartoon Violence.*

Re: Orange Box...or Enemy Territory: QW?
Why not? Aren't we talking about two different things? There's gameplay and then there's art style/graphics. Now granted a game not based on reality isn't going to have much of a realistic setting for tactics. However I see no reason for tactics to suffer only because a game is "cartoonish".
If you wish to break it down to a most primitive level no game achieves true realism, thus ergo all games have tactics, but not reality.
