    How does VOIP work out so far...

    Just wanted to know how the teamwork with voip does work out. I am currently out of luck with voip and the linux client and the teamspeak channels are deserted.

    For the people who use it it's useful, and the less-chatty ones will often listen. Most people do not use it, much less so than Source/HL engine games. I haven't seen it abused yet. Hopefully more people will use it and get used to it over time like what happened with Red Orchestra. When it was still a UT2k4 mod with a playerbase not used to voice chat, it was rarely used. Over time, it gradually became more and more adopted, and now it's used all the time. Hopefully we'll see something similar in Quake Wars.

    Quick phrases to get people's attention are usually listened to, like "Dominoes, turn around and med me!" or "airstrike incoming on the MCP!"

    I have had 2 cases of abuse so far, one of them was someone playing music trough voip. He just got a kick.

    The other I had was someone who was complaining about how he couldnt get the strogg forward spawn to "**** with them"

    I said: "give it a rest"
    "suck my cock"
    "excuse me?"
    "I said you can suck my ****ing cock"

    Player was banned frome the server.

    I forget, was the ability to hear voip enabled by default with the latest patch?

    In general the level of stupid play has lessened on the server. I dont see abuse of voip being all that bad, what I do see as being bad is that so many seem to have it turned off.

    In the near future we will start enforcing the rule that you must be able to HEAR VOIP.

    I think the ability to receive global voip was disabled but the other two, team and fireteam, were both enabled from the start.

    On the voip experience thing, I've found it to be very good so far. Haven't encountered any instances of abuse, and while very few people actually use it to talk to teammates, when I ask for something over it they usually reply via the quick chat. On the other hand there are those who ignore the chat or have just turned it off which can get very annoying when you really need that radar, but the dozen or so recon people don't do squat about it.

    This is a big concern of ours. We are working to develop our admin team, but unfortunately, we don't have a strong enough presence on the server right now. We normally will warn, then kick, then ban for a lack of teamwork. In general, we are going to put a strong emphasis on teamwork now that the game has been out a while and enough people have knowledge of how the game works.

    Each week I see more and more people that seem to know what they are supposed to do. Now that they know what to do, we need to work on getting them to do it as a team.

    I can't recommend that site enough. Seems every time I want to write something about ETQW, they have done a better job of it.
